LOL! Who else saw this discussion coming? I did.
OK compa, first of all, that picture was taken by agarcia. Enough said!  :smt044
Second, I kayak fish a lot and I have never used my feet to hold onto a bush in the wind. So, this technique is somewhat exclusive to agarcia.  :smt044

PK

Let me just add that in no way am I putting down kayak as a fishing platform. I think it's great and I am really drewling over some of the setups you guys have. I was just saying that in this particular method of fishing (finesse) it is best. Sorry agarcia if I offended. I did admire the atletic maneuver.

I too am curious.  Compa, if it's not a problem, would you mind copying whatever info you send to 152 Sumo and paste it in a PM and send it to me.  Thanks.

I brought this thread back from two pages down on the reports because impromptu discussions following a report are way more fun than making a special little thread for it.

yeah, I thread-jack. get over it,  :smt008.

The kayak *can* go into shallower water, you can paddle over just a foot or so. I did this in the florida keys, I used a brick on a surf leash as my anchor there.

It's just the wind thing. on the ocean, a drift sock works great.

what does hydro do when it's windy? sounds like he goes back into the trees? we don't have any of those tree things here in silli valley,  :smt002

I have both and prefer the yak...  but I'm considering mothershipping in to some spots and inflating my tube...
A TubeRide in Mendo would be a blast!   find them on the yak...jump in the tube.
like bluewater Jon!

there is a time and a place for both, lets just have peace, love & harmony  :hippy2:

It has crossed my mind too to mother ship a tube and change vessels.

No fighting here, just a friendly discussion, I hope...

Thanks a bunch for the info Compa!  I expected a blurb and got a thesis - WAY HELPFUL.  Now I just need to save up some scratch to buy the darn thing.

Well I won't weigh in on the tube vs yak issue because I already have, however, if I have to get my float tube out to get a LMB lesson from Ken and Compa, it is probably worth it. Catching big bass is more important than looking good on the water, right?  :smt005

We are not exactly hog hunters. I mean finesse is more of a numbers technique. It so happens works on big bass too, but it's not the primary objective. Then main objectiive is to get shy fish to bite. You are welcome to join us whenever you are ready. Just shoot us a PM.

Kayaks dominate where distance needs to be traveled, however it is no contest between the yak and float tube once the destination has been reached for bass fishing.  Float tube hands down, without doubt.

It is just virtually impossible to hold position with a kayak and maintain proper contact with your bait.

I agree with both floaters and yakers, but give me some wind/current and I can "hover" over any spot in my Hobie.  Plus I can easily cover 3-4 miles in an hour, work over a mile of rip-rap chucking cranks, or troll for stripers, etc.  Try that in a floatie...or a yak.  Best of both worlds, the Hobie.

If I were in the market for a fishing kayak and my target was LMB, it would not even be a internet search issue.

The hobbie with mirage drive is the way to go.  The ability to apply force with both hands on the rod is unparraleled (sp?)
