What a hot day out there on the water.  Practically no wind and HOT.  Fishing was slow, but bites were there all day from early morning to late afternoon.  Tides were good and high with lots of debris floating around.  Skiers were out to play today too.  Lots of PB on the water with reports of scattered fish from everyone.

Fishunter (Adam the Sturgeon Master) and I headed out to hunt for a big bass.  He hooked up first into a nice fish, but it came unbuttoned at the boat.  Adam got a good sized bass to stick later in the morning, nearly 4 pounds.  And then another smaller fish later in the day.  I ended up with 6 bass, two 3 pounders (biggest 3 lb 14 oz), a two pounder, and 3 smaller 13-14 inch males.  My biggest fish came on a SENKO (that's correct, a senko, Xsquid: I finally axed the tex worm for the day and caught a Senko fish).  All in all, a fun hot day on the water.  I'm looking forward in a few weeks for the "soon to be ON" top water bite.  Big Exploding Bass on the Buzz Bait, oh my I can't wait!

Adam, it was great to meet you today and I look forward to another hook-up soon.

The hunt for the DD bass continues tomorrow...

Good job guys! Thats what i caught my 9 pounder on. A small 4 inch senko. I was getting desperate for a fish to avoid a skunk so i downgraded bait and got two big suprises. I cant wait for the topwater bite too! Jeff

I don't know Hobie, don't see a senko in any of the pics!   :smt002  I think it's safe to say that your Yamamoto curse is lifted.  Way to go get them guys, even with the rec boaters in your face.  It was a really hot one out there today, shorts and all.  I think this weekend's weather will raise the water temp a bit.  I'm with you man, frogs and buzzers on the horizon.....

Sunday Report:

Went out again today.  It was a beautiful day on the water again.  Lee hooked up with me in the morning to try for some bass with his fly rod.  He caught several bass and a crappie.  Weather was identical to yesterday, but a slight breeze helped cool things off a little later in the afternoon.

I caught 10 bass today, two over three pounds, but nothing bigger than 4 pounds.  Most on Texas rigged worms, one on a Chatterbait, and three on the SENKO (X-squid, I have a pic to prove it too).  Not too many PB and skiers: I suppose they spent all their gas money on Saturday.

Be safe out there,

Hobieblue

Nice man, sounds like you had some consistant action.  The picture evidence proves it, the senko is back!!!  I have a charrterbait in the box, but haven't thrown it yet.  Did you work it like a spinner or a jig?  Check out any new water?

strong work delta dwellers!  your water clarity looks pretty good, are you spotting anything on nests?
Any males with bloody tails?

The fish (only 1.3 pounds) slammed the chatterbait as I worked it like a spinnerbait over the weed tops, slow enough to tick the weeds once and a while, fast enough to avoid bringing home the salad.  I have also fished it like a jig on the bottom with short bursts, but the bottom needs to be pretty free of weeds for that method.

As far as new water, I found some good spots that had all the ingredients for holding fish.  Got a nice one on it too.  Found a few other laydowns with dropoffs just outside the wood that will produce eventually.  Gonna do Disappointment next Sunday.

See you out there next time maybe...

Hydro--the spawn is on in the delta.  Males and females.  The water I have been fishing is shallow, 2-8 feet, so I'm assuming the fish are on the nests.  I can't really see any nests because of the dense vegetation.  A few bass boaters have said that they have seen males on the nests and females a bit deeper.

My first cast was Hit and FISH ON!  didn't set hook and it was FISH OFF!
This slough looks like a DD is hiding every twenty-feet as you hunt along.

I tossed a 7" senko for nada(saw one on the FF@20ft. and tried to Senko-jig it, got a tap, but missed the set. I would have had a limit if my skillz were better. Ended with two in hand and a whole day of huntin *new grounds!
This place has it all!
