What do you think? Could I make it into the ultimate yak trailer?

How about this one with a lumber rack? Or a metal camper shell w/ yak holders on top?

I didn't like the axels on the other one but it looked like a fun project.

That trailer on Craigslist only carries 300 lbs..  IMHO a good trailer design (if one must use a trailer in the first place) should be able to hold multiple kayaks (good for shuttling other friends kayaks at times) plus have a big lockable box for gear.  I'd keep looking.  Starting with a boat trailer is probably a good idea.  There are also new utility trailers on the market to start with as a platform, as long as they are long enough, and their wheels aren't too small.  Personally I just use a lumber rack on a small pick-up.  I avoid trailers if possible.

I know when I was desperate for a trailer, I was looking at everything in every way.

I'm really glad that I held out for something that was solid and very user friendly.

Not to go ad nausea with " My Trailer ", but here is something to think about.....

Dangin's trailer is the most awesome I've seen (and not nauseating in the least  :smt002 ) I like the idea of starting with a utility trailer instead of a boat trailer, as it can then be used for multiple purposes.  I do have an el cheapo 4 x 8 utility trailer, and it's wheels are small, but it cruises okay.  I wouldn't want to drive it faster than 55 mph though.

I'm getting a small boat trailer from one of my friends.  the guy cut the tongue off to ship it from Fla, and I need to design/fabricate a rack system.  Looking for NCKA friendly welder types to asisst me somehow.  I will post a pic as soon as I get it to my house, probably this weekend.

I have an old hobie 16 trailer that is awaiting work to get pimped in to a kayak trailer. One things to remember is that a kayak trailer doesn't need to be a beast that weighs 3000lbs. One of the best upgrades you can have are the larger tires with bearing buddies if you ever back down in to water.

I have no welding skills to make an awesome rig like Danglin's, so I bit the bullet and ordered the Sportsrig trailer. Anybody that wants to see it in the Santa Cruz harbor or Loch Lomond, just let me know. I was considering the Rack and Roll trailer, but I noticed that they had a product recall due to the main bar breaking! I would avoid that brand for sure.

Amphib-
I'm no expert on trailers but I'm with Brian & the others as far as avoiding beastly heavy trailers. The truck bed one would be very cumbersome for its capacity. If you keep looking, you can probably find something way more pracitical for around the same price, although you might have to make some modifications. Think aluminum...!

That's like the super deluxe Secret Service double agent trailer  :glasses6: :glasses7:
What's something like that worth?

I bought it as seen for $1600,

a bit much, but I know the party before me bought it for over $2k,

If ya want I'll shoot some bed photo's of how this thing was built. It really does not require crazy welding skills except for the racks. the racks themselves are bolted in. The locking storage boxes are also bolted in on top of 2x6' boards,  and ya,

  she is stealthy :smt007
