Duane, at the top right corner of your red square where it hits the shoreline in the pic, there is a windsurf launch and parking.  I take that back, its across the harbor and you take the marina bay exit off the 580 then stay right where the road has a v.  Continue on until the end.  Sick launch spot, maybe takes a little time out of your drive and paddle.  Plus, there is alot of bait around there.  JTF..  possible, i'll be there.  :smt002

yeah, your right actually, i just looked at it closer again and realized you have to skirt the rockwall if you launch there

No, Your right, just go till the end of the rd. till you hit the parking lot, if you take a look up on the path that runs along the bay and look right, you will see a cement path down to your beach launch..

 Nice bath rooms too!!!!

From this spot you need to either go around brooks Island to the East or go straight across to the thinnest part and drag your yak across, aprox 20' or if tide is very high, could paddle across.

Wish I could be there........ :smt010

What's the deal with that house on Brooks Island... is it occupied, and if so, by who?

way to go don I have seen that spot before but forgot about it, we need to post it in some more comprehensive form so it is easy to find. we have all this info on this site but it is hard to find what you need. there needs to be some better way to find all the places to launch for one spot it could make it better

I'll be launching out of the parking lot that InsaneDuane indicated at Brickyard Cove early tomorrow. Does anybody know if there is a charge for parking/entry in that area?

I'm thinking that I will be arriving there between 6:00 and 6:15 am. See ya there!  :smt006

BTW, if I can get out of work early I'm going to throw the cast net a bit to see if I can find some live bait. I'll post back in this thread later tonight how it went.

Just a point of clarification:

Is this the launch site that Don is alluding to?  Is this a preferred site over the one that Duane first mentioned?

You Are Correct Sir!!!!

As far as " Perfered ", it depends where you want to go. This area as far as I know, Is kind of newer ground
for us yakers, Except for those who have been keeping it a secret :smt002, So it is up to you if want to hit the area behind Brooks island and be even with the " Race Track ", then this would be a better spot to launch from.

If you want to Hit the " Hampton Shoal " Then, The Ferry Point/ Brickyard Cove area would be better,

Both spots have areas to make bait with the old ferry pilings and peir @ Ferry Point

and The marina at the Marina Parkway Launch site

The place Jay is talking about is Ferry Point, no parking fees (Both places no parking fees),

I don't think it is open that early, but you

can park just outside the park entrance no problem, in fact it's even closer to the launching spot :smt002

Brickyard cove seems like a better option all around. Might be interesting to do a point to point drift from point Richmond to Berkeley Marina.

That is what the California Dawn does, They get close to the island, close to the Costco/ racetrack area,

out towards hampton shoal, basically working the entire area

Jay, I'll try to meet you there around 6-6:15am... I believe you still "owe" me a beer for the AA battery holder... time to ca$h that marker in!

Sound like there should be a pretty decent crew of yaks on the water tomorrow...

This is one of my favorite forums so let me give you a belated fishing report.  Last Sunday, I was on the Golden Eye 2000 with some friends and we trolled for halibut with Capt. Quan.  I caught and released 3 shakers and kept one keeper.  Quan stayed real close to the shore behind the island but most of the fish caught that day werecaught in the morning before the wind blew.  When the tide moved it ripped through point where Duane is planning on launching.  We used frozen anchovies and caught fish trolling with one motor and Quan slowed the boat even more by using a step down transmission that allows him to troll like a kayak.  If I were going to fish for Halibut on the kayak, I would launch from Danglin's spot and fish the area behind the island.  The fish were in that area.  Another thing that surprised me was some experimental gear we used.  We used FBR and RSK lures as well as flashers and they all caught fish.  Dig out your salmon gear and troll using a torpedo sinker.  Your sinker must bounce often but not drag the bottom.  Good luck and be safe.  Watch out for the rip tide that may carry you further than you would like to paddle.
