I think it actually reduces the wiggle on the rebel, and makes them troll more shallow.

that bit about looking like a shad is probably rationalization, imo.

Thanks John!..that is GOOD info that I'd never know.  Lots of different lures, how far back to troll those lures and how fast to paddle them.  Very usefull! 
 

I've caught cats on spinnerbaits, crank baits, and fairly often on crappie jigs.

They are aggressive piscivores when they get older.
