Chuck, I don't trust myself with a gun.....I already have enough problems with the urge to use my flaregun on some yahoos on the ocean (and lakes)  :smt013

...but I'am a proud owner of the mighty Red Ryder - 800 pellet capacity BB gun  :smt067 ...I'am a good shot...don't use a scope either....don't need one....and I keep the racoons in check....especially when they mess around with my kayak in the backyard....I found one hiding inside the open hatch of the yak one night..playing around with the wires of my transducer....I went "Rambo" on him....I did not kill him (just wanted him off my yak) but I'm sure his ass is sore....from a couple of well-placed- shots .... hopefully he has learnd his lesson and will never mess with the mooch again  :smt077

I'm a surfer first, kayak fisherman second (could change tho...)
Here's my perspective:

kayaks are cool if they aren't in the waves with surfers, otherwise they are an unholy menace.

Every once in a while a guy in a 50lb boat,  full-metal-jacket-PFD and helmet comes into the lineup with a bunch of people on 8lb foam slabs and wetsuits. It's no fun. Unless the guy has serious skills he ends up hurting somebody.

So that's where the nastiness comes from. fear!

Kayak fisherman are generally trying to stay out of the waves so there shouldn't be a long-term problem.

now, you want to see inter-sport nastiness, show up a at a skatepark in lycra shorts with rollerblades on,  :smt003.

btw, Mooch, there is a reason those girl surfers from lindamar won't hand over their phone numbers. You might do better if you wore a wig and a dress. That is the stereotype anyway.  :smt061  :smt061

so where is all the derby news! Who won?
I went surfing this morning  :smt004
hopefully I'm fishing tomorrow!

I've got skunks instead of racoons, but if they become a problem I'm picking up a box of CB 22 ammo.  In a rifle the pressure is so low by the time it reaches the muzzle that the report is about the same loudness as the hammer falling.  They do 'bang' out of a handgun though.  Usually they hang up on the skin on the other side of a small animal.  I could build a little bunker in my living room with couch cuisions and open the sliding door...    :smt070

A bunch of neckid filipinos with ratan sticks killed Magellan and a bunch of his dudes who had armor, swords and guns.  You'd think the surfers should watch out!   :smt027
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

that's right baby  :smt023 Magellan learned an important (and fatal) lesson that day: NEVER get in between a Filipino and his rice field  :kungfu
