If no one else is gonna do SCUBA were gonna skip it and leave the dive master on the dock.  You can freedive all you want.

Pat-glad to be of service!  I miss you guys.  I am going to ride with you guys until you get that YT you have been looking for.

Just came across this report. I'm getting pretty excited!

"Thu Oct 16 2008, 05:07PM
The Toronado checking in this evening from the Cortez Bank with a good day of fishing. They have 80 yellowtail on deck with lots of bonito and rockfish to go with it. Still some fishing time left and Donny will keep us up to date.

The next chance to ride the Toronado and take it to the bank for a 1.5 day trip will be Tuesday night October 21."

Yes, all collective fingers are crossed and hoping for a smooth ocean so we can actually get onto the "banks."

PAL, are you bringing hoop nets again?

Yes, I plan to bring hoop nets - a quick show of hands of those who'd like to give it a go would be helpful.

There's a wrinkle. To be legal, now anyone chasing lobster must have a lobster report card. It's a bit like the old abalone dance card. $7 and change per person.

If you're interested, bring a headlamp and a back-up light source of some kind. Lobster cards should be available at the landing or any of the many tackle shops nearby. I should also say prospects for hooping the Cortez are iffy - it may be beyond the Skippers' collective comfort levels. But I'm going to work on them and urge at least a zodiac run if we are so lucky (I hope, I hope, I hope!). If that's the case, we'll share the wealth.

BTW, if anyone has not done a trip like this before, one thing you really need is finger wrap,

I've never done lobster hooping before, but I'd be happy to give it a try!  :smt003

I'll give it a go too I guess.  Not much point in trying it of SCI again though.  Lobsters, lobsters everywhere, and nothing but dinks.
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

I should have about 15 hoops to go around this time. May try deeper water and see what happens... but yeah, so many shorts at SCI. Of course, we were in a very mellow area that night. Maybe too calm.

Pat and Randy, so glad to see you're on the boat again this year. Skipper Shane said you should grab stateroom B or C - your choice - they are the best for couples.
