I would like to go out for some buts this weekend. Weather and swells are going to be fine.

I will rig for Halibut and try that, but if I can hook some by-catch rockfish and release at least it will help. Need t Fish.

Anyone going out in the bay?

I'm planning to fish the Berkeley Pier area on Sunday morning, towing popsicles rigged on an FBR.  Probably get on da water around 9:00am and stay until my better half has had enough (probably about 2-3 hours).

I am new to the area and the fishing here. I have never been to Berkely Pier, but may make the trip.
If I do, I will give you a shout on ch.69

Good luck

stoggie,

I might go out to Santa Cruz Tomorrow. I'm a newbie to kayak fishing too.... but swells look ok for tomorrow. Caught a big halibut last weekend at oyster point, so might go back, but I'm willing to go to SC as well. I'll be on ch69 tomorrow or pm me.

I went out of the harbor this am to drop crab pots. There was no wind but there was some swell blasting right into the mouth. I waited it out between sets. Nothing serious but a tough paddle. I'll pick up pots on Sunday as the report looks better. There was a big up hill current. I would say you would neeed at least 8oz. or more. If I had caught a Halibut at Oyster Point I would be going back there in a hurray. I'll be out at 7 am on ch. 69. Good luck.

I gotta agree, I'd be going back for sure.

I'm gonna wait to see how Sunday is looking, it has changed (the forecast) what was 5 kt winds is now 10 - 20 kts.

Swell is picking up also.

Sunday looks better

Let me know what your ideas for then.

Looks like a good early start. I don't want to be out after noon as the wind looks like it will pick up. I am goning to try for a Halibut or flat fish for an hour or so in the am then pull all four pots. I'll be on 69 and give a shout out.

The reports on Noaa looks like there's a pick up on wind on Sunday. Gonna play it safe and wait till Monday and check again. Got a three day holiday this weekend, and want to get out on the water. I might be out on Monday if anyone is free.

I pulled pots on Sunday, 4 Dungeness of the legal size. Plus a bonus first thing at 6:30 while going out of the mouth of the harbor I found a 12' Zodiak with a small engine (no cover) bouncing off the rocks. I towed it in to the dock and reported it to the harbor master office. I went back after pulling pots and found out that the CA number on it were not valid. 30 days wait and it might me mine. I checked for any Norcal Yaks on 69 but no response. I'll most likely drop pots on Friday and pull them Sunday weather permitting.

I have been reading some posts bout the buts. It will probably get going around SC in a few weeks.
I've only been out from Moss Landing and SC, so to go somewhere new would be a hoot.

I'll keep my eyes on the weather, maybe this up coming weekend a guy might get some bendo.
Can't wait for rockfish.

Keep in touch

Hi Yakers:

Santa Cruz still puts out Butts around Pleasure Pt.
Kelp beds. Make sure to fish close to Pots which tend to
attract the food Chain. Allex a few years ago won a Yak
with his Butt, fishing close to a Pot.
