Hey there Ethan and everybody   :smt039

My name is Bert and I'm catching a case of the madness as well. I've had the pleasure of meeting a few members. I've signed up for a beginners class at Aquan Sports down in San Carlos through Mooch. Great shop there and folks are very helpful. I noticed that you were from the Oakland area. I'm currently in Richmond and thought I'd share some of my local finds in the hunt for the most suitable yak if you haven't pulled the trigger yet or come across these. I've personally have my sights on the OK Trident, but am trying to be patient and try out other yaks before I buy. April 27th, REI is having a demo day at San Pablo Res. which isn't too far from you. Aquan is having a demo scheduled for June 14th and 15th in Foster City. I plan on attending both of these. Another shop nearby, which I haven't had the chance to visit yet is Outback Adventures in Larkspur. Another option is to check out the Hook Ups and check out whats going on locally and try to meet folks that way and check out how their rigs are set up. I did that not too long ago at the Richmond Marina. Met Alien and Marmite out there after a day of butt fishing. Good guys, and they were happy to let me check out their yaks and share info. Well, happy hunting, I don't know about you, but I feel like a kid before Christmas in my search. Hope to be out on the water with you folks soon!  :yak

Thanks for sharing your post!  As a beginner too, I'm sure this thread will come in handy for other new comers.  As I will try renting out some yaks before making my own conclusions…my preferences.
