Thanks, Scott.  If you don’t have a patent out on it,  would like to copy you.  More bothersome questions:  What is the model # on the Okuma CT?  When you drop your weight, do you put it on free spool and thumb the spool or do you keep it engaged and back off on the drag?

Chuck -

If you are just using it mainly as a downrigger, I would use the Okuma Convector ($64.99 - CV 15D)) instead of the Catalina ($129).

I thumb the reel to drop deploy the downrigger but you could back off the drag. It is mounted right behind me so it is easy to do.

Steve at the Rod Rack in Hayward will size and glue the tip on for you. If you are cutting down an old rod, I would use a Dremel with a cutoff wheel. If you need any help, let me know.

Scott,

Good idea.  I’m visiting a friend in Reno next month so I’ll stop by Cabela’s and buy my new Okuma downrigger.  Thanks again.
