If you shore-dive, now you have to bring the dang report card into the water!
AND those tiny tags that you have to fill!!  :smt013

Hey, these new regs are better:
"EXCEPTION: Cardholders who dive from a non-motorized vessel such as a kayak that is in the water may wait until immediately after disembarking from the nonmotorized vessel to tag and record any abalone in possession, but shall not transfer any abalone from his or her immediate possession unless they are first tagged and recorded on the report card."

So we don't have to tag them or fill out the punch card until we come ashore.  That's much better than bobbing around at the edge of the surf trying to write and punch.

On Labor Day weekend of 06, I got a ticket for not filling out my card while on the water in the yak, at that time that was required and I just forgot, cost me a trip to see the judge and $250.

So the law has changed BUT, I will still fill out my card and tag my abs as soon as I get out of the water, not when I get on shore (cause I'd forget) ......this one may cause some problems,

I have in the past carried some of the regs with e to avoid misunderstandings....

BTW I have no problems with the new tighter regs,,,,,,,any thing to stop ab poaching is OK by me, well maybe not anything,,,,

However, this does mean we can keep the punchcard/pen in a lock-n-lock inside a hatch such that it will be absolutely dry once we pull the kayaks up the beach and have a chance to remove gloves, dry hands and write on a flat, stationary surface.  Some of my area codes from last year looked more like chinese characters....

Yes it is a little more involved, but if it helps cut down on poaching, I am ALL for it.
