Caught July 2009 at Linda Mar. It was 41.5" and 28 lbs.
Still trying for that first sturgeon though...

For 2009 it would have to be the 23 pound "beast from 6 fathoms". It was a beautiful day to fish, I had Darius and Keo for company (you can tell by the "easy" yak in the background :smt044).
Coincidentally, the same day saw my brother in law land a 42pound white sea bass off his scupper pro in Santa Barbara.
2009 was a good year....

This would be mine. A 43.5 inch Striper. I do also believe polepole has a "slightly" larger fish under his belt since this thread started.

My biggest fish caught from kayak so far was the 7' Sturgeon at China Camp in March 2009:

I'd say it was probably the 6-7' soupfin shark my brother and I caught and released in 2000 from the tandem.

However, the biggest and most awesome was the 20-25lb (I was too humble to weigh it or take a photo) salmon I caught in 2002. Trolling off Linda Mar with no other boats around, I landed a real hog after a 15 minute fight.

I punched it in the head a bunch of times, ripped its gills, whooped and hollered, tied it down, then reached for my paddle which was nowhere to be seen. Keep in mind this was before the days of high tech devices like paddle leashes. My paddle was about 50 feet off my bow, drifting away in the current. I managed to fashion my net into a rowing device of sorts and awkwardly made my way over to the paddle that was my ticket back to the beach.

I was never more proud and embarrassed than on that day 7 years ago.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

First sturgeon, solo all the way, couldn't even find anyone to take a pic, so I'm not in it, using relative light gear, about an hour long fight.  56"
