Hit the water in my other mode of transportaion P.B. Friday with a couple of friends for 2 6+ pound trout (me) and a nice 7.7 pounder for the "Guy who doesn't believe there are any fish in that lake!" :smt007 :smt002 A few more dinks rounded out the day.
I just couldn't help myself so I went out in my tube today for more LOVE... My first trout went 10 pounds 9 ounces, the second a nice 2 pounds...yelowboat showed up  :smt006...a few more planters...then a 4.5 pounder...then a 3.5 pounder...then a few more dinks. :smt003
22 pond stringer, Oh My! :smt044

Drifting rainbow Power bait (for you trolling types) kind of DOES work when the water is muddy!

WTG Ken. Those are really big fish. You are right about power bait drifting and on the anchor will outfish artrificials in stained water. But I would rather get skunked.  :smt005

Ken fishinfool,

That 10 pounder sounds like it is AOTY worthy.  What was the length?  Was it one of those tailless footballs?

Way to go Ken and I am jealous!  :smt003

Ken has the power bait down and Mooch and Frank with the minnoes are killing the convicts with the striped suit. I guess Great bass has his mandogs to content with. Congrats to all!

To those purists I might have offended...No apologies here...I LOVE to catch fish! :smt002 Anywhere, Anyhow! :smt007

What has compa been saying about me??? Hmmmm? :smt005

As for AOTY I know I can't compete with the likes of y'all!
Mooch will kick my butt for bass, when he tries a thing or two different this year... :smt002
compa already has!!! :smt010

Grizz I didn't bother measuring it. It had 2/3 of a tail, but no worries, it was on my ultralight with 4 pound test, so it got FOUGHT to a Finish, took me a while too...

Thanks!

Hey Ken F, I agree catching fish is the thing, regardless of technique. I was out at Del Valle today also, and just got one 12" trout on a trolled lure.

When you said Drifting Powerbait, what did you mean? Were you anchored with the classic shore-fishing sliding sinker rig? Or did you just put it a few feet down while paddling around? Sounds effective, so I've got to try it. Details, please.

Thanks for a nice report.

Andy

Having fished with Ken a few times I can tell you about the method he uses. It is basically a tiny little split shot 18" or so above the #8 baitholder hook on 6# test like. Put enough power bait on the hook so that it floats but will on the hook but will sink to the bottom with the aid of the splitshot.
Then what he does to to cast it out and drag it ever so slowly on the bottom keeping the line taut at all times.

Good luck

I was in my tube today (so I was just cruising slowly) but have done it quite a few time in my Yak.

In water deeper than 15 feet use the sliding egg sinker (smallest you can get away with) and in shallow water just use a splitshot.
When the water is clear it doesn't really matter what speed you go, I let the wind push me.
When the water is muddy I want to be bouncing bottom slowly, so will use the paddle to slow the drift down.
Sometimes there is no joy so I'll anchor where I mark fish.

I'm still wondering what compa says about me?? :smt005

Unfortunately no because it wasn't caught from a kayak. :smt010

That said, sounds like you slayed some major bruisers Ken. :smt007  Way to go!

 :smt003 I know!! :smt005
The only problem I have with you is...you can't go as much, (at all lately) anymore,
but I hope that will change soon! Don't worry though...yellowboat is picking up your slack, for now, compa!

As for AOTY, I read the rules, and you can't enter "after you catch a nice one".
Plus I fish strictly for the fun of it, anymore.
AOTY sleepers to watch out for this year...MOOCH, Sin-Coast, yellowboat, and compa! :smt002
