Anyone ever try this line? http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0043855121493a&navCount=1&podId=0043855&parentId=cat600396&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20166-cat600396&catalogCode=IJ&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat600396&hasJS=true Berkley used to make a mono called Depth Line that I used for salmon trolling much easier than a counter. If you hooked a fish you could just go back to the same color and be in the zone. I thinking it would be great for trout.

I've been thinking the same thing but want to keep w/ Spectra for the decrease in drag. I tried coloring the spectra but just wears off.

Last year at Elk, ChuckE was using some line that was color coded for depth.
I think it was Daiwa product so it might have been something like this..

http://www.tunafishtackle.com/daiwa-marked-braided-line.html

But the smallest test it comes in seems to be 40lb.

Brian is absolutely right.  I was using Daiwa's Saltiga Boat Braid in 40lb test which is as thin as PowerPro's 20lb test, but much more slick so it slides through the guides with less effort and noise. The colors will dull a little over time, but still very visible.  Excellent stuff!

I got some cabela's metered dyneema braid line, in 10lb and 20lb test. it's colored like lead trolling line, but no lead and is super thin as you expect with a superbraid. comes in 200 yard spools.

the same as in the link.

I figured if I was going to spool a spinning reel with 10lb braid to be like compa, it might as well be metered so I could troll with it.

seems like it will work, all I've done so far is tie some 4lb leader to the 10lb test and huck a lure into a local lake with one of my boys.

mickfish, I think you'd like it.

Already ordered J I'm not a big fan of braid but I see a big benefit here. I need to get a little deeper for trout and I'm not going to use a downrigger. On a PB they are OK but on a yak I think they are just silly.

how deep are you wanting to go? one thing that might work for you is a faux-downrigger, just a 2lb ball with a release on the end of X feet of 50lb mono, just slide it over the side of the yak right at your seat.

that is kind of in the spirit of the yakking. not too ostentatious. nice and ghetto.

I have to admit tho, that whenever I try it, I end up with a tiny crappie on the end of the line that is too weak to pop the release.  :smt011

the trout seem to come when I just use a little weight at the swivel, probably because I was at the wrong depth with the ghetto rigger and with a weight it goes up and down as you speed up and slow down and eventually I get it in front of a trout.

but that guy on coastside, that trolls a straight grub on a downrigger like 10 feet deep or so seems to do well.
