I couldn't get all the air out of the suit so everytime I headed straight down, any air left in the suit went up around my feet and made it feel like I was kicking with balloons around my ankles, then the more air I did get out, the colder the suit got.

delladl,

I appreciated your comment and forwarded it to the people at the Kayak Academy to see what they had to say.  Good to know about this before I waste effort gearing up for this. I haven't been free diving since the late 70's and I'm sure that dry suits like the one you mentioned are much improved.

Bryce,  have you tried doing it with yours?

From my experience a good dry suit would be the best choice for cold water/weather yaking or scuba diving as long as the suit was designed for the purpose (Yak or dive). As far as freediving, if someone out there is doing it successfully in a dry suit I'd like to know.  My experience with dry suits was quite a few years ago. I know wetsuits are significantly improved over the last 20 yrs so I imagine dry suits are too.

I may be a bit confused here....
* a Drysuit / Jumpsuit like Doug has, with the front "P" zipper is made to DIVE? or snorkle?

*there are "drysuits" made of neoprene that are (when i tried them on) SUPER TIGHT around the wrist&ankle..hence the DRY.

...i've seen those Kotote? full-jumpsuit-type and couldn't imagine that you'd be able to go down more than a foot...they are loose and hold LOTS of AIR?!

You know I never tried... cuz some bugger swiped it outta my car while I was chilling on the beach after a nice day on the water. :smt011 :smt013 :smt011 :smt013 I am trying to move on and get another but they are bank so may take a little while. I may have to get a drytop and cinch it down over my waders for now.

After due consideration, I have decided on an "Xcel" brand neoprene "semi-dry' suit.  Just my 02.

Bryce, that is a bummer...I'll have to remember not to leave mine in the car to tempt any thieves.
