Anyone interested in diving/ spearing this weekend? Long range forecast from wunderground puts a 6ft nw swell as the forcast. Been dying to try out my underwater camera.

If I didn't have a chest cold I would take you up on it. ZERO bottom time for me for a while. I'd better stay above the water for now.

The man who braves snow storms and 9 degree weather does have a weakness! Hope you get better soon so we can get some fishing in, you're falling behind in AOTY.

Brian,

Art and I will probably be heading out on thursday and saturday...most likely monterey but not sure exactly where.

Thursday will have to be somewhere where I can head out after 8:15AM (gotta take Omar to school) and be back by about 5:00PM (gotta pick Omar up from school)...but Saturday can be a farther trip with no time restrictions.  I'd kind of like to go check out someplace south of Monterey but I'm not positive if I'm ready for that yet.

Primo, I'm off on Thursday, let's hit Monterey for a quick dive. This will be my first dive trip and I simply want to get in the water,  swim around the shallows to get my feet wet :smt002 Let me know!

Excellent Primo, it'll be good to finally get you out there.

I'll let you clip my fish to your belt.  :smt003

10% of your weight in lead is the general rule of thumb.  But everyone is different and some skinny guys I know wear 27lbs.  I don't think I've ever worn more than 22lbs.

So I'd start with 24lbs and bring a couple 2lb and 1lb weights to fine tune.

...and if "sexy" is a euphemism for "man boobs", then you might need a few extra pounds.  :smt003

Moochie you made me spill my drink!

Being your first time out I would dive with less weight so you can float on top easier. Gotta be able to float and control your breathing.

Like spinal tap says, the general rule of thumb seems to be 10% + a couple of pounds, but everyone is different.

Also like Brian says, you should probably go a bit light the first couple of times until you're comfortable. Once you're comfortable you can fine tune the weight.  I'm at about 215 and my first few times out I was diving with 20 (I'll have to check to be sure, I posted it here somewhere) but struggled to stay down so I added a couple of pounds and that seems to have made all the difference.

I personally would prefer to have to struggle a bit to stay down than to come back up.

Thanks for da tips fellas :smt002

The other question is: if I drown, who will be brave enough to save my life and administer CPR  :smt002

On a side note: I will be taking a CPR class with Aquan sometime soon - I figure it would be nice to be prepared - just in case the problem presents itself :smt002

Looking forward to playing in the tide pools :smt003

I got the canon SD800 ( wide angle with image stablization) with the canon WP-DC9 underwater housing. I just gotta buy a 8 gb sd card for it.
