Stillwater Cove (Carmel)

Hi all,
Another newbie question (or two)
I have never launched here and want to escape the heat this weekend. Do you usually call ahead to reserve a spot, or figure if you are there by 5:30-6am that you will have parking open to you?

Thanks for the info. It's a long drive to find you can't launch.
If you get there and can't launch, what is your next best bet?

There is access to the north at Pt. Pinos and Lover's Point Park, both in Pacific
Grove. Pt. Pinos is more exposed, but better parking. Lover's Pt. is an easy launch, but parking can be a pain. That area is popular with the running/jogging/walking crowds. Here's a link showing aerial shots-

South of Carmel is Monastary beach, and then you start getting into Big Sur-
