It seems that Promar has just started to market a sturgeon snare that looks exactly like the one that Erik posted a pictorial tutorial of in the past.

This design has been around long before I started making them.  The first time I saw them was in a display by an outfit called adarngoodsturgeonsnare.com.  They don't seem to have their site up anymore.

I just could never justify paying the price they have been asking for them.  Hence I made my own and posted instructions for doing the same to save a few bucks.

I've seen the Promar version before, and it's pretty nice.  They actually use a brass line tensioner which is a nice touch and probably better for corrosion resistence.  Wish I could find me one of those.

I'd say more than a few bucks in savings.

I'll have to double check, but I think the tensioners that I picked up are brass-lined. They cost almost $4 each. If I confirm it, I'll send you one.

I was mistaken. My tensioners were not brass, even though the flex handle is golden in color. I've seen all-brass tensioners on E-Bay. Are those the ones you were referring to, Erik?

Probably... no biggie though.  I've yet to  have a problem with the galvanized hardware store type.
