Nothing wrong with Racer 5, but it isn't very holiday specific.

I like Bear Republic beers.

One of the cool things at Sierra Nevada is that we get other brewers coming by all the time, and the almost always bring a case of their brew and leave it in the brewhouse for us to split up.

The guys from Russian River brewing came in and I got a bottle of "Damnation", which was a damn good belgian style if your into it.

Hey, Bluefin, I checked out Eel River yesterday and their holiday brew is "Black Lager" right now - I sampled it and it was a bit stoutish for me...  I had an amber and enquired about the Hazelnut Porter.  Turns out it's a year-round brew now, but they were out for a couple of days!   :smt012  The amber was good fuel for going to the redwoods and playing with the bear and fishies.   :smt001

Just about anything from Lagunitas.  Gnarlywine, brownshugga, Maximus, or their IPA.

MolBasser,
Can I get the Bigfoot (barleywine?) anywhere around Santa Rosa?  I had it up in Chico.  It was OMG good.  I haven't seen it since.

It should be widely available in the middle of January.  We just started packaging, so it will be out soon.  I have personally brewed a huge portion of this years Bigfoot, and we are still brewing it.

Enjoy!!

If you come to Chico, we have a whiskey barrel aged Bigfoot on tap.

Drool.

Any time.

You should be able to get Bigfoot up your way.  If not, call your distributer and complain  :smt002

Mol, sorry I missed hooking up with you before I moved to Tahoe. I hope your lovin the Chico life. Tell Ken and his son I said Hi and thanks for donating to the FFA. Please ask them how they came by the name Bigfoot for the beer. My best friend of 28 yrs (the late Steven Leidig) was building Kens pool when Ken brought out one of the first cases of bigfoot (no labels) and asked the crew what they thought of it and what would be a good name. Steven knowing my love of dark beer and how robust it was, thought of me and both of us being neighbors of Ken's says he suggested Bigfoot. I never confirned that and now Steven is gone and I always wondered. The next time I roll into town I have got to stop by and say hi andtry some of the whisky barrel stuff, sounds like the bomb!!!

I'm fermenting my 4th batch of homebrew, a big hoppy barleywine.  The previous batch is a california lager and it'll be ready to try this weekend.  It tasted really good when I bottled it, so I think I'll do more stuff with that yeast this winter since my garage is the perfect temperature to ferment it in.

Sometime in the next 6 months my dad is going to bring me several 12g (!) carboys that my grandfather used to brew in (originally sulphuric acid shipping containers in the 80's).  Now if I just had a 15g kettle...

Not much of a beer man myself (I know insert joke here) but I was watching the news the other day and they were mentioning something about the price of a can/bottle of beer increasing by $0.50 because of a barley or hops shortage.  I forget which one it actually was.  Any truth to the story from those in the know?

I doubt 50c, at least for low end beer, but the ethanol craze has been increasing grain prices across the board and that will result in more expensive barley.  Hops is a relatively insignificant percentage of the cost of beer, particularly for cheaper beers.  I'm planning to grow hops this coming year though because I can.  ;)

With the massive bee plague that occured last year the price of honey did rise considerably, which I guess saddened many fans of mead.
