What a day :smt011 if it could go wrong it did!!!

started fishing at 8 am and it was freezing! started by trolling my favorite flyDEL VALLE 101
and some other rapalas on the other rod. as i got past the narrows i noticed a small pool of water accumulating in the bottom of my sit-in-yak, no big deal it was just a small puddle but it began to grow :smt013 so i took off my jacket sweat shirt and sacrificed one of the shirts i was wearing in order to sponge up the water. then the whole sleeve of my jacket falls in the water :smt011 so I'm freezing sponging water with mt shirt waiting for my jacket to dry. sponged out all the water and about a half hour latter its back :smt013!! sponge it out and make it to shore around the hech heche camp ground, unloaded and flipped over the yak to check for leaks, and right in the back of the yak theres a hole about 1\2 inch long  and a 1/4 inch wide :smt013 i thought about it for a while then decided I'm not done fishing yet its only 11 am and i haven't caught a fish!!! i found some a small plastic bag and melted it into the hole let it harden and melted more just in case. now the yak is temporally repaired so i jump back in and start FISHIN again, i started throwing some crawlers around for Nada. then i start practicing on the fly rod again the wind picked up a little at this point, false cast, false cast, and WHACK!!! in my face :smt013 lucky me the hook didn't stick but it did leave a nice bruise :smt011 now its about 4pm I'm slowly making my way toward the launch and some A-HOLE in a ranger Comanche comes flying by on a full plane going at least 40 mph and only about 10 feet from me :smt097 giving me a nice wave to try an d ride out. he then starts fishing 100 feet in front of me right were i wanted to go :smt013 he starts chucking a fly rod so i stop 30 feet from  him and start chuking my fly rod with the same fly from earlier the guy trolls over and ask "how could you possibly fly fish from a kayak you have any idea what your doing" with a stupid look on his face. at this point i wanted to  :smt067 that jerk, but instead i answered "we cant all afford a 60,000$ boat and i make do with what i got and ill bet i can still out fish you any day!" the guy laughs and starts chucking his fly around and on the first cast after the exchange of words BANGGGGG!!! FISH ON!!! I ended up landing a nice 16 inch FAT small mouth  :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 i hold up my fish and say "i guess i do know what I'm doing, in your face buddy!!!" that pissed him off and he took off like a bat out of hell,  :smt044 made my day alot better even after all the Crap i put up with so i ended the day on a positive note, oh yea sorry no pic the camera batteries were dead  :smt012

Good report - glad you salvaged your trip.  I ended up with a hole in a yak before I got Roleez...  Drag-eez worked fine until that hole showed up!   :smt003  A-holes in powerboats...  I don't think I'll ever understand them.   :smt009

Hey J-Fish,

That was my wife and me out there on the yellow T-140 and orange P-15. I saw you on the bank messing with your boat, but I wasn't sure what you were up to, and based upon your story I can tell that you probably weren't in the mood for pleasantries!

I've had the same experiences with power boaters out there too and I think the one that waked you got me just a few seconds later. Glad to hear you hooked up though!

i found some a small plastic bag and melted it into the hole let it harden and melted more just in case.

That's why I always carry a roll of duct tape.  Don't leave home without it!

When we come across these types(or they come across us) I am VERY QUICK to KINDLY ask them, WHAT THE F#@% are you thinking? in a nice tone of coarse.

way to make it work Jason! wish you could have taken a pic of the dick, then posted it! like MOST WANTED DUMMY of the WEEK!

Forgot to mention, when the wind picks up, try to position your boat so you are casting down wind. Double hauling and tighter loops also help when false casting into wind. Lastly, you can cast slightly sidearmed instead of overhead and this also lessens the chance of hooking yourself.

I'd cast upwind vs downwind every day of the week, and twice on Sundays. But in a boat where you can maneuver yourself in relation to the cover/structure you want to fish, I'd rather have the wind blowing from the non-casting hand side. It's when the wind blows from the casting hand side that you need to be really careful. Heck, I've cast with my arm across my body in some blows.  But that's just my take on the matter.

And way to go, sticking with the flyswatter. I don't even bother trying for bass on the fly this time of year, but the water I fish is in the low 40s on the surface right now.

Maybe it is the wisdom of old age, or maybe I just don’t want the hassle anymore,  but, when I am sitting in a kayak, I don’t want to get in a pissing contest with a power boater because he is pissing down hill, and if he goes postal, he can do a lot more injury to me than I can to him.  Take a picture and turn him in to EBRPD  One complaint may not get any results, but, if we all complain every time we are waved by a speeding PBs, they will get out there and start citing.
