First big box on the top left hand side has a link to the rules for 2008, 2007 is pretty much done and over with so no need to bring those rules back into play.

Direct link to the 2008 rules - http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?page=31

We will at least have prizes for spots 1-10 in 2008 and the way it looks now that will most likely be 1-15 or even 1-20 will get prizes. If we go 1-5 or even 1-20 you can place in the prizes with a all FW entry I believe. Assuming you can pick up a striper in FW.

As far as supporting a good cause the funds will be used to keep this site up and running. I leave that to you to decide on how good a cause that is.

For those interested in how a Freshwater AOTY and Saltwater AOTY might have played out...
Here are the rankings and points as of today (12/14/2007).

Note that if a striper or salmon was caught in freshwater (rivers or lakes) it counts towards your freshwater AOTY points, but if it was caught in saltwater (ocean or bays) it counts towards saltwater AOTY points.  Unfortunately, I haven't figured out how to deal with someone who might have caught one striper in the bay (SW) and another in lake mendo (FW).   For example, I know that ChuckE had a bay striper (SW) that he deleted and replaced with his larger Mendo striper (FW), therefore ChuckE should have an even higher score on the SW list but that info has been lost.

Freshwater (LMB, SMB, Striper(if FW), Trout, Salmon (if FW))
Rank     login            Points
1         mahi mahi    738.5
2         scwafish     720
3         Freddie      682.625
4         mooch             679.5
5         bsteves     645.5
6         fishshim      641.5
7         Adam_Coca    626
8         ChuckE    622.25
9         InSeine     582.8352
10       Uminchu   564.25

Saltwater (RF, Cab, Ling, Halibut, Sturgeon, Striper (if SW), Salmon (if SW))
Rank    login            Points
1         ChuckE    805
2         fishshim     638
3         Danglin     616
4         Abking     610
5         Freddie     579.75
6         KzReelRods   568.25
7         scwafish   543.25
8         Adam_Coca   531
9         mooch    472.5
10       InSeine   436.5

If you take a close look you'll see that both lists consist of pretty much the same anglers.  In fact, there are only 13 unique anglers listed for the 20 possible spots.  In other words, the saltwater guys might have had an overall advantage in AOTY2007, but that didn't stop them from doing extremely well on the sweetwater.

Bill

Yes, I read those ruels before my last post, I was just wondering if there was a more explanatory set of rules that I didn't see,

Anytime I see the word Pot as in AOTY Pot-$xxx I assume that pot goes to the winner, but now your post seems to say the $ stays in NCKA for site support.  Either of which is fine with me, and Yes the site is well worth it.

Maybe I'm just too detail oriented for my own good,

thanks for the feedback

The pot is being split up for the 2007 AOTY, for 2008 we are moving to prizes.

I am not good with the rules thing, if you see something that is unclear in the 2008 rules let me know and I will work on making it clearer.

My question for you is, What's the biggest bluegill you've ever caught? My point is, a trophy bluegill is not easy to find.

....at least in my opinion :smt002

dude,...... trophy bluegill?? are you joking?  i'll bet they are illusive as all hell. sort of like those championsip thoroughbred nightcrawlers.  :smt007  do they actually have bluegill tournaments?  for adults? IMO,forcing grown men to actively pursue bluegill to maintain their standing in the tournement is not only ridiculous, it is cruel and unusual  :smt009

Nobody is forcing you to fish for bluegill, or any other species. It's all up to you as to what fish you want to target.

well of course nobody is forcing anyone to fish for anything. but,if you actually want to win the competition you are going to find yourself spending hours upon hours looking for the ever so illusive trophy bluegill. after all, everone keeps saying the point of the competion is to get people to target species they wouldnt normally target. well i guarentee they wouldnt normally target bluegill.

I looks like this ree-dick-you-luss category may actually win.  I have to say me sentiments fall closely along those of kayakjack.  Bill, are we going to convene off line for a points/inch assignment as before?

We are finalizing the AOTY setup for 2008 and wanted to throw this out for a vote. Panfish would be yellow perch, sunfish, bluegill, crappie and sacramento perch.

Does this mean I can earn mondo points for catching a 200lb monster mola-mola (aka: sunfish)?

The panfish category is going to open up a big can of worms!!!! :smt013

Biggest ever was just over pound and a half but dozens in the 1 lb+ range.  I would sight fish for them in 6 inches of water, I tossed flies, I used 1 lb tippet as mainline on uul gear, I used to use micro crankbaits, grubs, crappie jigs...a couple times I targeted them with pop-r's.....they all work.  I've targeted them every which way you can imagine with the lightest gear I could get my hands on.  It was a fun way to spend downtime (anytime not spent fishing for blackbass or stripers, waterskiing, swimming, tending a barbcue, watching movies, etc...)

Its not a case of "you're just not doing it right, use lighter gear..blahblahblah" I did it right and had to continually change things up to keep it interesting.  Its just not as tough as people are making it out to be.

Panfish...  whatever!   :smt005

All the talk of the point of the AOTY being to get people targetting fish they don't usually target...  whatever!  NOT for me.  The point for me is to get out and have fun - and I do prefer to pursue those fish that I have learned of and gotten good at catching.  Why would someone enter a "competition" to do something they've never done?  I mean, that's great if that's what you want, but many of us just want to add some fun to what we're doing anyway.  When my kids get old enough to want to yak fish more we'll probably go learn how to catch panfish and other freshwater species.  Until then, thank you, Bill, for keeping the big species prizes, because that's what I have fun doing, and that's very likely the only way I'll get any prizes.  To each his own - I decided to enter no matter what the format, because I enjoy the interactions with my NCKA brethren as much as alot of the fishing.   :smt001

Now, can someone please clear this up:  if I catch a sturgeon in the Eel River (no take, no slot limit...) will it count for points in AOTY no matter what size it is?  (sorry if this is addressed elsewhere...)
