From BillM....
The smaller fish - otherwise known as "lunch" - hit a chartreuse/white clouser (hints of blue & pink also), then very shortly was grabbed by the bigger fish. I'd guess the fly was down about 35-40' (I was using LC13 & often waited quite a while before retrieving). I could feel the thing I had on still moving, but it took a while to drag what turned out to be 2 fish to the surface!

I'd estimate the bigger ling at ~4' long, probably around 15-20 lbs. Very big head and lots of teeth, as you can see (#071, my favorite). The smaller one was 22". In the photo with the smaller fish right near the camera, you can barely see one side of my Boga's jaw. I tried to switch the Boga from the smaller fish to the bigger one, but that's when he fnally let go.

Other than this little surprise, it was a usual session at Stillwater: about 35 fish to the boat ((2 of them ready for sauce & the oven, #073), maybe 16" biggest rockfish, mix of blacks, blues, olives, with one copper. Several sea otters, one other guy fishing with his daughter - from kayaks using squid for bait.

Real nice day. Not much wind, the swell present as always but very manageable, totally fogged in the whole day, and not that many people using the beach. Even the traffic cooperated, as I got home with no backups.

IMO: if Lings grew to the average size of a great white, we'd all be in trouble  :smt107

Shoot, then we'd really get some glory, paddling out there with 36" scampis and 12guage bangsticks.
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

Our kayak alone would be a scampi to a 10-foot-mutant ling  :smt119
