Anyone doing anything for the long holiday weekend?  I was thinking about giving thanks outdoors this year.

I'm considering camping near Foresthill, not far from Auburn.  Free camping, and Sugar Pine Reservoir is just 3-4 miles away.  There's always plenty of room, but I'd certainly consider other spots...  Mendo, maybe?  I'm not into crowds, but camping alone doesn't sound like much fun.

If a small group wants to camp at our place/ use our house near Mendocino town let me know.   The GF is spending Thankgiving in San Diego this year, and I have her  enthusiastic go-ahead for a few good NCKA folks to visit and have fun.  So it's just me and the cat here.   There is a big back spare bedroom too.   A group of two to four people would probably be about right for starters.   Bring a guitar if you like.

I should really warn anyone coming that I am definitely NOT a good housekeeper, (redneck modern decor)  :smt002

Other than that the rules here are simple:   Respect our good neighbors (remember, I'll be living here my whole life), drive slow and safe on our quiet roads, and no dogs please. (I like dogs but my cat begs to differ.)

We have a Weber grill and a smoker.   We can have a fire ring at night (not too noisy is all).   I just started kayaking last month so I'd like to meet folks in the group.   Mooch and I are talking about setting up a little NCKA campground here and I'm open to suggestions.   Our place is one mile from Mendocino, Mendocino Bay and Big River.   Two miles to Van Damme, six miles to Albion, ten miles to Navarro and eight miles to Fort Bragg/ Noyo.

I have a Hobie Sport and a good neighbor with a Hobie Revo.   We also have an electric Bobcat boat (tandem).   Not good for the ocean but great fun on the local rivers.   The Bobcat is going to be for sale in December but I'll wait 'till after Thankgiving in case anyone wants to try it out.

So what are y'all waiting for?   Send me a PM and I'll give you all our contact info.

"Ace"  (Asa) and I are also talking about crabbing under Big River Bridge, but we haven't set a date yet.   He just got married I think (and yes, she kayaks of course!)

Pictured:   Skinny old me standing with Bobcat boat.   My neighbor Herb with big grin in my Hobie Sport.  (he bought a Revo six days later...heh)  and a very dangerous creature that followed us up Big River that day...

sincerely, -Matt

I hope something works out for your weekend. That stretch of water looks nice and inviting.
