I have always been more of a bait person but after skunking from shore with squid and getting a good cab after switching to a swimbait, I'm working on adding more skills to my arsenal.

Jigheads are great from shore, but it's harder to keep them at the bottom in deeper water on the kayak. I've been reading here about folks using hi-lows or 3-ways with swimbaits on the kayak which makes sense. I like the idea of less weight on the swimbait itself for better action. My question is, what kinds of hooks do you use for these setups?

Hooks marketed as swimbait hooks are mostly weedless, but my jigheads are all exposed hook. Right now, I'm thinking weedless is better on a 3-way where the swimbait may make contact with the bottom, but exposed hook is probably fine for hi-lo since the weight will tend to touch bottom first unless I'm drifting over a large feature.

Do I need a belly weight to keep swimbaits oriented correctly in the water? Can I just use large (2/0-6/0) baitholder / J-hooks? I think this is what I saw in Gopher's guide, but should I get something with a longer shank to position the hook further back in the swimbait? Am I overthinking this and anything is fine because they're not that picky and they'll inhale the whole thing?
