Monterey 04/25

Forecast seems good for Monterey compared to HMB. Will be out at the ramp if anyone wants to join.

I will also be out there tomorrow. Driving from Sanger (east of Fresno) so I won't be there too early. First RF trip this year. Probably one of the only since baby #2 is coming in July.
I have some new lures I am curious to try. I got some Nomad Vertrex (I think 110). I don't remember the weight. Maybe 1.5oz-2oz. Anybody had luck with those? I also got some Stoopid Bait tube baits for lings.
I'll probably mostly use live bait in the end.

Also, does anybody know if it's worth my time trying to catch squid, or is it too early?

I’ve used both the vertex max’s and the squidtrexs for halibut and rockfish. Both work really well! I’ve jigged it straight up and down as well as casting and retrieving like a swimbait.

How was it today? I’m eager to hear. I’m debating on whether or not to go to MB tomorrow. I’d definitely try for squid 🦑 I’ve got them year-round, if you put in the effort. How was 10 MPH wind? It’ll be the same tomorrow. That’s about the max I like.

It ended up being darker and wetter and windier than I expected. I didn’t catch any bait fish the whole day I didn’t catch any squid. I only got a couple of small rock fish. There were some folks in bigger boats that said they got limits but they were in 300-400 fow.
Not a productive day of fishing, but I’m happy I got out.
