PB Sole on 3/18/2026 Report from Mendocino Coast

While waiting for the Rockfish season to start, I decided to chase more sole and sanddabs. 
There were many migrating whales and birds to watch.  I have seen over 20 whales today.

Got my PB sole, 20".  The temperature was much lower than I anticipated due to some low-lying fog.

Dinky dabs has been my experience in Monterey too. Even in Santa Cruz, they tend to be somewhat better sized. Perhaps that's because in SC you have to go much farther from shore to find them?

Sand dabs are the most underrated fish. They taste amazing lightly floured in butter with salt, pepper, and lemon. That rig you have on looked interesting too. Good job Paul. I agree about kayaking it’s more therapeutic than boating for sure.

I have been playing around with differen sanddab rigs and hooks.  I ordered several additional sanddab rigs from South Korea to experiment with.
