I know people frequently catch perch and striped bass from shore, but not sure how to catch them from a kayak.
If you have any suggestions or recommended videos, please let me know.
Thank you.

Fish closer to beaches where they likely are. Target areas with lot of sand crabs you will get them …

I’ve caught a lot of perch this Winter (from shore). Not sure how I’d approach from a kayak but you need water movement/breaking waves with a trough to get to their spots.

Stripers for sure from a yak- especially in the delta, etc.
I have most luck on live bait and jerk baits.

Come to San Pablo bay anchor up and throw some ghost shrimp that’s an automatic way to catch schoolie striped bass.

I was thinking about just staying outside of a surf zone and casting toward the beach.

I’ve tried, but never caught surf perch from a kayak. I used to catch a lot from shore and many of the bites were really close in, like in the wash after a wave breaks.

Not saying it can't be done, but most of my surf bites have been right behind where the waves crash on shore (pretty close in.) Not sure you want to be remotely close to that splash zone in the kayak. I would imagine you drifting pretty fast towards shore also if you are close enough to cast into the strike zone

Delta for striper. Bite seems to be picking up now and should get even better in late March/April.

The only time I caught perch from my kayak was around pier pilings. It was a really calm day and there was no one fishing on the pier so I decided to get close. Got a dinky little shiner perch.

Delta for striper....

The only time I caught perch from my kayak was around pier pilings.

This is my experience with both stripers and perch.  99% of the stripers I've caught were Benicia and up, and all of the perch I've caught from a kayak were next to a pier.  Not for lack of trying... I've tried a handful of times at Rockaway for surf perch from the kayak, both trolling as near to the shore as I dare and by casting towards the shore into the breakers.  I've caught perch there from shore before, so I know there are at least a few there.

I’ve got a side-planer and it seems like that might be a way to troll close enough to shore, but I have not yet tried it.
I don't like stuff that sucks.

Go to a marina/launch ramp and fish the pilings. I used tiny Kastmasters or a thumbnail sized mussel pried open just enough to slip a small bait hook inside of it, taking care to make sure the hook point was exposed outside of the shell. Fresh mussels could be pried open enough to slide the hook in and would clamp shut holding the hook inside. I caught, and lost lots of very big rubberlips. #4 test.
I guess one could wheel their yak down to the oceans edge, get in and cast out. AOTY legal?
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Ooooo.... I have one of those too, but hadn't considered it for this use....  Might just be the ticket.

I mean, it is fishing from a kayak, haha.  Not sure if the rules say the kayak has to be fully floating... Just sayin'
