Back in the day... 

The first ever GS t-shirts (GS3) were created by friends of Andy/Fishmaster1, down in the Salinas area.  Andy did a great job with a basic image (my profile pic) that I provided, along with my direction on what else would be included on the shirt.  He customized shirts for several of the participants, and each shirt was air-brushed by hand.  It was a special way to start out the tradition, and I will always appreciate my bro's efforts.

For GS4, I went to a black t-shirt, and I had my printer folks help me with very basic art that included the yakker image in blue, along with wording about the tournament, location and date.  From there on, for several years, I'd just work with my printer folks (Blackjack in Arcata), changing to a new color each year, and just tweaking the wording, font and content enough to have continuity of theme while also making each year unique.  I had blue ink, then red, then green,...etc.  GSX was fun, with black on black!

I enjoyed the simple nature of the shirts - always a black t-shirt, and the NCKA "linghead vector" was on there all the way until GS13 in 2019.

In 2020 I decided to go a different route and hire my buddy Shawn - a real artist!  I dropped a significant chunk of change for the art, and then I had to cancel GS14 due to Covid!  Reviving the event in 2024 was partially based on really still wanting to use that art!

Shawn Griggs (RedEye Laboratories in Ferndale - look him up!) is a great guy and one of my all-time favorite people, but working with an artist has its challenges...  I've found myself longing for the simple days.

So, I just messed around with Chat GPT for a bit, and the 3rd photo below is a preliminary idea for the back of the shirt for this year.

I'm telling you:  I am about done with hassling over trying to make the shirt more than it needs to be!  Especially when all of that multi-color layering ended up fading badly on the shirts for the past two years - sorry about that, people!  It's part of the learning curve.  I remember one of the Albion years where the back of the hoodie had an amazingly detailed underwater scene by Amadeo (I'm pretty sure), but the ink faded out to almost invisible after a few washes...  Live and learn, and, please, don't blame the dude doing all the legwork and R&D!

What say you all about this preliminary idea?

Also back in the day...  I used to do a long sleeve white shirt with the colors on the back but with a black "stroke" or outline around the color.  Might fire that up again...

Does anyone have advice about a program (preferably free!) to turn the third pic here (a png file) into a vector file or other file that can be used for t-shirt art?

OK, I'm impatient, and I predict that this thread will continue to be way less active than GS threads of years past...

I'm getting with my new printer and moving forward with the new design I showed above on the long sleeve white shirt - the circle.

I'm planning on dark heather t-shirts (tourney t), graphite heather hoodies (a bit lighter than the t's), long sleeve white t's, and gray rash guards with hoods (like last year - love that shit!).

All of this is still in the planning stage, but I need to get a move on and put registration up soon.  If you have input, put it in!   

Oh yeah, I'll go with the same front pocket art as the past two years, but yellow instead of last year's blue and two years ago's red.
