The smoke house in Hayward/San Leandro is closed. It was Bobby Lee's but they had a fire and I think Bobby is to tired to reopen it. Too bad cause he was great at buthering deer and pig.

Is that the one I'm thinking of? The one run by Ohlone indians? Somebody told me it was in San Pablo. I have to confess I know nothing about smoking fish. But people have told me there are good, better than good, and awesome techniques. I don't mean to change the theme of this thread, but I'd like to learn more.

 Without generating speed on a troll though, how can you still make em go for broke on your bait? Can you use less lead weights....can you  drift fish?

You drift fish (mooch) with just enough weight to get you down to your desired depth. It works, but then you're waiting for the fish to come to you.

You get plenty of speed in the kayak to get the fish to slam your bait on the troll. I have never caught salmon any other way on a kayak.

Those are some nice fish. That big one would be like the old man and the sea on a kayak.

VERY NICE If I caught one of those in my kayak (ocean caught)......I would die a happy man! Congratulations on a great catch!!! 

OMG...that's a brute!  Once I saw color and the size of that thing I'd probably go spastic.  Good thing the deck hand had your back.  Looks like the planets/stars lined up for you and everything fell into place...WTG.  I'll bet you can't wait for someone to ask, "what's the biggest fish you ever caught?"   

Regarding smoking your fish in Emeryville...there used to be the Sportsman Cannery on Hollis St.  Its been closed for a long time now but the buildings been recently renovated.  Its now an artsy-fartsy furniture store.  Hopefully they got rid of the bloody floors and loose animal parts.

Amen to that! That's why we use the kayak in the first place = for the "pucker factor"

ditto the pucker factor last year in the river I caught that 41incher, talk about pucker.

Congrats on the great catch, my advice is buy the little chief smoker it will serve well for a long time

I can only imagine that pucker factor. I still have yet to catch anything on a yak. I have rental time at HMBK, but that's about it. I need to get my butt in shape. That fish is certainly an incentive.

I don't know the rules but speaking as an honorary member of this mod squad, I say feel free to post non-yak salmon reports They're all boats and it puts a fire under some of us to get out looking for that exquisite salmon stink
