The Garmin inReach Messenger is on sale for $200, which is 33% off, at REI, Amazon, and other spots. I just bought one. You have to buy a subscription as well to make use of its satellite communication, and the cheapest plan is like $8 / mo. While I hate paying subscriptions, and hope to never use it, if I ever have to use it once, I'm sure I'll think the subscription was cheap.
