Mikey from SD Fish and Sips is missing after sending a Mayday off the Baja coast in Mexico.
He was fishing 8 miles offshore from Baja on his Solo Skiff.

I heard about this yesterday from Yaad.  I met Mikey at the Cove in 2020 I think.  Super cool guy and rabid fisherman.  I hope he's OK.   :smt010

Been following this closely.  A tragic and worst-case-scenario for sure.  All optimism is on deck for his safe return.  I like his content, and seems like he's a solid dude and valuable member of his local and extended community .

A reminder for sure to all of us to plan for the worst when we go out - communication, signaling, immersion, backup propulsion, float-plan-dissemination, etc.

I hope they find him, he is a solid nice dude with great safety plan.  Met him in Bolinas on the water, offered me a tow to Fort Baker without hesitation!
Didnt know he is from Moraga, but I hope he is safe somewhere.

Some reports the body was found in Bahia Tortugas in the fishing field near San Cristobal.

RIP - MIKEY

This is rough news.  Mikey’s been a staple in my feed for a couple years.  I’d watch his dockside bluefin reports pretty regularly leading up to my trips, helped to stay up to date on what’s happening out on the water……….and helped build the stoke.  He did some big things on his solo skiff and his trips up and down the state kept his content interesting and fun to follow.  I know I seen some  ncka heads in his videos, condolences to those that were fortunate enough to meet and fish with him.

His positive vibe and excitement will be missed……we lost a good one.

Yeah this sucks big time. I’ve been watching his stuff for years even though he was mostly in Southern California. His video of him catching salmon up at Shelter Cove was cool too. Seemed like a good dude. Still kinda hoping he’s trying to get out of some remote beach he landed on but looks like there’s rumor they found a body.

"Today was tough but we all sighed a deep breath of relief that Mikey was found & we no longer need to scour the ocean, shoreline & arroyos for signs of him. We have closure to this tragedy & much to learn from it. We can now all rest a bit & reflect on Mikey's great spirit & love.
Many thanks to all of you who selflessly committed time & money to finding Mikey.
Mikey's family wrote this beautiful requiem.
It is time for the countless people involved in the search for Mikey to finally rest and begin to find peace. Mikey’s body was found in the water near San Cristobal earlier today. As difficult as it is to accept this, we are grateful that it provides us some closure. As we begin to process and reflect on what has happened over the last several days, it is clear what was at the core of the search for Mikey: love. Everyone poured everything into finding Mikey, because whether they knew him or not, they knew a son, a brother, a fisherman, a fellow human needed help. Everyone has been extremely selfless during this time, and selflessness is one of the greatest acts of love. We were united in the search and we are united in love.
“Life is not just the passing of time, it is a collection of experiences, their frequencies and the intensity of those experiences” -Bill Bailey
Mikey would often recite this quote and he embodied it, and he lived a complete life because of his beliefs. Mikey was mindful and present every day, and that allowed him to live a longer life than can be measured on a calendar. His mission was to spread his positive energy and make every person he came in contact with better, and he did. Mikey prepared us to deal with this, and if we live by his example we will be OK. Thank you everyone, we are grateful. We love you."  - Shari Bondy
