I have a Torqeedo 403 (AC??). I bought it off of FB marketplace for $1,300. Used it maybe 8 times in MB before getting line wrapped up in the motor and ruining the damn thing. I got an error code 45 for battery overcurrent last time I went out. Found an authorized repair guy nearby (Clovis). He quoted me $1,322 to fix it. Says the entire pylon has to be replaced rather than just the motor. There's a guy selling his whole rig who would part with his same model for $800.

I'm not paying $1,300. I don't have wife's permission to buy another for $800 either. Who has experience or advice finding replacement parts or a guide to fix my motor? TIA

Have you taken it apart yet? Is it possible that it is still bound up with line?

I'm not a torqeedo expert by any means, but I can see that type of error showing when it doesn't have the torque to overcome whatever is binding it up.

If you see an obvious failed part, there may be manufacturers and parts numbers stamped on the individual components.

mannnnnn, forget that bulljive repair quote.  That's like when you bring in your Timex to watch repair and they charge you $15 for a new battery.  But your Tissot costs $115, same battery.

If you haven't called customer support, give em a shot.  They have a physical office located in IL.  I'd hope they have some in-house support that'll help you troubleshoot, rather than turning support over entirely to channel partners.

Im no torqueedo expert but I’m with speedystein, definitely pull the prop and double check to make sure there’s nothing still wrapped up.  It may be overcurrent because the resistance from residual line is making it work harder, overdrawing current. The trolling motor on my boat occasionally trips the breaker when it’s bogged down by weeds.

If that’s doesn’t work, try opening the pylon to see if anything is bound up or stripped, something might be preventing it from spinning freely.

This was 3 years ago and it might give some insight regardless of his general critique.  Fact is you own one and you want it working right.

Good tinkering if you choose.  Sometimes I tinker without being too wreckless and send it in after I give it my best.  :smt006

If you haven't called customer support, give em a shot.

If you do give them a call, I’d be interested to know whether they’ll provide any meaningful support. It always burns my britches when a company won’t do anything to help their customers (I’m looking at you, Rinnai).

Thanks all. The tech pulled a bunch of (my) braid out of the motor. The braid ruined the seals and let water in which corroded the motor. It's fried for good.

I had another set of eyes make the same assessment.

Torqeedo has robots and remote phone technicians answering their phone line. Their website sends me to "dealers" rather than being able to actually order any parts. West Marine in MB is listed as the nearest dealer. They sent me to their website, which does not carry any necessary parts or anything for the ultralight at all. :(

Oh well. I'll start making money again in three years when I'm done studying for a second career. Then I'll be able to buy the toys I want and maybe even get them new with warranties. Until then I can pedal.

dayum sorry to hear that.  Hopefully you din't have to part with much money only to find out the device is kaput.

And yeah, i'm curious about your second career also (threadjack).  I'm considering returning to teach high school after I'm done with slanging legal papers

I'm studying Speech Language Pathology. I'm in the first year of my master's program. I will graduate in 2028. I expect I'll be able to get a job for +80K right away.

I was a junior high and high school science teacher for 5 years in Fresno County at two different schools. Kids are jerks, but the parents are the real deal-breaker. I got tired of parents either being disconnected or demanding/threatening. There aren't enough fishing days in the year to make that worth it for me.
