Question for Humminbird Helix users:
What do you use to protect the ends of your connector plugs for surf launches?
(and between uses in general, but particularly for surf launches)
Back when I used a Lowrance, with its round connectors, using rubber furniture leg tips, with a squirt of Corrosion-X or Strike Hold inside, worked great but....with the odd/oblong shape of the Humminbird connectors, that won't work.
In terms of the unit itself, I am glad I switched away from Lowrance, but haven't figured out a solution for this connector situation.
TIA,
Chris

I fill the plugs with dielectric grease periodically and spray them with water after every trip. Haven't had any problems after years of use.

Are you connecting your unit on the water and launching with the tips exposed?  I do occasionally and wrap a ziploc tightly around them and gear tie twist the base of the bag tightly. :smt006

Many thanks for the replies.

I have had this yak for years, but haven't surf launched since switching from the Lowrance to the Humminbird.

Eddie:
Yes, in the past I have stowed my head unit while pushing through the breakers, then connect it once out past the breakers....the rubber furniture leg tips with some corrosion-x had worked great with the round lowrance connectors.
I think I will try your idea of the ziploc.

I've used a gallon ziplock or a plastic shopping bag as a cover for the head unit for surf launches at times - absent a flip it does the job. I like to make sure my electronics are working as they should while still on land. Sussing out an electronic gremlin on the water is a PIA.

Cheers,
Brad
