I put leave it in the car, some carry with them, some break them down & store in kayak, some will lock them at the launch.

I personally like to leave them behind (YMMV- with crimes).

If the car is near, it goes there. If the car is far wheels go in forward hatch and frame under my kayak cooler in the rear.

After transport the kayak to water edge, I removed the 2 balloon wheels and put them onto an aluminum tube/rod and now they're my stabilizer.

I have to make two trips regardless, so after I bring the yak to the beach, I take the wheels back when I re-park the car and grab the final stuff.    Leaving the wheels in the car reduces corrosion.  I have the 42cm wheels, so they take up too much space to go on the trip.

Iirc you have a newer outback?

On the newer outback there is a plastic hook thing that is centered on the rear of the tankwell. The tankwell bungee goes over bar of the wheel and then to the hook.
