I have been using old GoPros, Hero3+ which is not providing good sound recording and it is not waterproof.
It is about time I upgrade my camera.  Been talking to several YouTubers and researching on the web.  I narrow down to two choices, DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro and Insta360 X5.  I am leaning more toward DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro with DJI Mic Mini Transmitter.  If you have any other suggestions, please let me know.  I will be waiting for a sale to make the purchase.

I love my Insta 360 X4 and wish I would've waited for the X5. IMO you have much better editing options with the Insta 360.

I filmed the video below with my X4. The camera is mounted to my hood, which is getting bounced around like crazy, and you can see how smooth the video came out. The DJI mic is compatible with the X5, as well.

The insta360 cameras are very fun to shoot with but it's also another level of editing. For the beginner shooter it can sometimes can be overwhelming. I think the quality of the DJI camera's are much better than the GoPro's.

Also make sure that, any electronics is waterproof. Even the salt water in the ocean air will eventually corrode any non-waterproof camera or electronics.

If you really know how to color grade and utilize the increase dynamic range in the DJI camera's your footage will be amazing; however, it comes with a lot of editing and photography knowledge.

I think DJI 4 is probably good enough for the weekend warrior. The DJI 5pro is more for
the prosumer and people who work in the photography/videography industry like me.  Just my opinion. Good luck paul --Keith

Thank you, Keith

I noticed that not much price difference between DJI 5 Pro and DJI 4.  I am still thinking about getting the DJI 5 Pro to get the latest model for better operating time (240m vs 160m).

Just curious what you ended up getting and how you like it. I've got a GoPro Hero 7 Black and a couple of older Garmin Virb cameras (the Virbs that were shaped more like dashcams). I absolutely hate the GoPro and have regretted buying it since the day I got it. The last straw was sailing into the harbor yesterday, and the video stopped recording after about 2 minutes, although the sound kept recording (one of many known, but never fixed, problems with GoPro). The older Virb is not waterproof, but it has a waterproof case that works well for filming underwater from my downrigger.

Anyways, I came across some strong recommendations for the DJI Osmo Action 4, and at $274 on Amazon, it looks like a great deal...

I got DJI Osmo Action 4 Essential Combo for $199 during the last Amazon Prime Day sale.  Also, got DJI Mic Mini Transmitter for $50.  To make it waterproof with extended battery, I am using the following items: Suptig Waterproof Case Compatible for DJI Action 5/4/3, Waterproof Up to 164ft ($20) and Suptig Portable Charger, 7800mAh Battery Pack Power Bank ($39).  With this I can record continuously for over 6 hours.  I will try to make a video of my set up soon.  If you have any questions, please let me know.
I like this setup and considering buying another one.  All my recent videos are made with this setup: https://www.youtube.com/@mendocinokayakfishing/videos

Thanks for the quick reply. That’s a great price, but I doubt it’ll be that cheap again any time soon.
