If there is any interest I have a place on the RR where we could base it.  I would like to do it before the fishing gets gets good and the flows are still down. Steelhead fishermen are normally a tight lipped group so this will be a great time to uncover some of their favorite spots and Techniques(Yea I'm Talking about you Dan)

This would be a 2 day event, where the first day we would take a short drift and consentrate on Safety,Anchoring, Boat Handling, Self Rescue,Clothing, Gear, Etiquette,Techniques,Reading Water, Fighting and Landing/Releasing a Fish. We would drift a section of River above my place leave the boats on the Beach have a nice Dinner then Take a longer drift the Next Day where we could concentrate on catching fish. I have room for 5 or 6 in the cabin, 1 or 2 more if you can sleep in the same room as Joel :sleepy2: and space for a few tents. Since it's a small river and we will be launching and landing on Private Property I will have to limit it to about a dozen on the 1st day the 2nd day there is a public launch just below my place where more are welcome.

I will convince Sean and Mark to come to lend us their expertise in techniques, gear and boat set up, I would really like it if we could convince Hawk to come for his expertise in Safety and Boat Handling( most or our yaks are made to go in a straight line and are not easy to handle in river currents, just ask Me,Mooch, JD and Naoaki) With any luck maybe The Kayak Kowboy will show up to teach us how not to anchor, gear retention and Self-Rescue :smt005

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

I would like to do it tomorrow, but I feel that the river should be closed until Thanksgiving or the flows exceed 500CFS.
But since you are moving we could do a short 1:1 drift as long as we don't really target fish. I'm open Sat afternoons Sun and Mondays.

I'm in if you can switch the venue to the Lower Klamath and do it before Oct 31. I've been scouting the section from Weitchpec to Johnsons for a week now looking to run commercial trips there. After all the salmon and steelhead I saw swimming and being caught I couldn't catch a damn thing. I'll run the river like an ace but could definatly go for a clinic on steelies. It's chock full of fish right now. The water level is perfect for SOT fishing yaks. Theres a lot to running a river let alone catching the fish in it. I would share my knowledge and skills of river running and look forward to fishing with bros and learning new skills all around. The Klamath is an excellent training ground for working out the kinks in your kayak camping style. A two day run would be perfect. It's a great opportunity to to have a steelhead slammer and bag a salmon for AOTY if it's on your list.

Hawk thanks for the offer but I am busy for the rest of the month. I would like to do a 2 or 3 day trip on that section of the Eel that you did last year. Not really interested in river salmon and the Steelies in the Klamath are sorta small. I have made a lotta trips up there with my Dad and I caught a lotta fish but never caught one over 7lbs. If I drive that far I want to hit the Mattole or the eel.

I'm thinking of the last 2 weekends in Nov. or the 1st two weeks in Dec.

What a great idea! I would be very interested in a two-dayer, if you've got room or tent space for me.

Always wanted to try fishing for Steelhead.  It's really nice of you to offer to put this on.  I'd be very interested.

How about Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving...  Friday should be a holiday for pretty much anyone... weather / flow dependant that is.

First weekend of Dec is no go for me... got a pig hunt scheduled.

I just got my anchor rig dialed in... ready to roll.

I'll be back home in northern Wisconsin in two weeks fishing for steelhead and coho on the Brule River to get a little practice fishing for steelies (and hunting Ruffed Grouse as well).

KZ you can get Steelhead here, go for a Muskie and take pics. I spent a lot of my childhood fishing there in northern Wisconsin with my Gramps.

GO PACK!!!

actually steelhead is a state of mind achieved through standing in ice cold water and masturbating. you should come to the seminar.
