Heard they have closed New Melones to boating.   Be interesting where we can lake fish soon.   Berryessa has a 30 day quarantine.   Tag the boat and must wait 30 days.

The Berryessa quarantine does not apply to non-motorized kayaks. They are still subject to simple inspection, if asked. Motorized kayaks require inspection but no quarantine.

East Bay Regional Parks lakes seem to be following normal protocol for inspetion.  I've been to Shadow Cliffs twice in the last week, once with kayak and once with our tinny, and it was business as usual.  Dry hull, good to go.  I expect Del Valle, Chabot, and others to be the same.  They even banded our boat on the trailer to make inspection easier next time.

Edit to mention - on the boat, they checked the bilge at the transom, the outboard (electric only lake, still checked the gas engine), all seats/PFDs, the carpeted surfaces, and the trailer bunks.  On the kayak they check the deck surfaces, the area inside any hatches, the bottom of flush mount rod holders, and your PFD.  They are thorough, but as long as everything is dry, you should be good to go.

Hi Joe,
Where do I go to get my motorized Kayak inspected at Berryessa?

Do you know if there is a cost?

If I leave my motor at home do I need to be inspected?    or can I just do my normal launch at Pope Bridge?

Sorry to pepper you with questions but the internet is not really clear about how this all works right now.... probably too new.

Thanks
Troy

Hi Troy,
I don’t have first hand knowledge, just what I’m reading on Berryessa Fishing Reports. No inspection required for non- motorized.
There’s no one to inspect at Pope or Smittle. But I would clean everything pretty good anyway just in case .

I expect Del Valle, Chabot, and others to be the same.
Took the kayak to Chabot last week and I can confirm — no change in process!

Thanks Joe and Pasha,

I guess I just have to go with a clean boat without motor for the first go since the muscles were found.

someone needs to invent a spray that kills them instantly.  fog each vessel before they launch.  but that would probably kick open a new pandoras box...like everything dies.  hahah..

I am watching my secret lake like a hawk.  I suspect waters with hydro dams the ones that worry people the most???

even before this, I took precautions.  I even sealed all the holes in my net to not trap water.  my kayak:  I run a small fan inside with hatches open to dry out the interior.  and I sealed everything.  mine is dry like a tomb inside.

It's not popular in CA yet, but in other places they do a hot water wash if your vessel isn't 100% dry. Some places do it to every vessel. It kills the eggs instantly, and eliminates the frustration of being quarantined or denied launch because of a literal drop of water.

I went to Putah Canyon and they inspected my kayak at the gate before I paid. They said they are inspecting all kayaks. They were pretty thorough but they let slide a little moisture Ipoh the underside of the hatch.

Keep in mind they are supposed to offer a decontamination process that allows you to skip the 30 day quarantine.

Rollins and Collins closed till further notice. Other lakes will probably follow the trend.
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!
