This is still under study and not conclusive. Lets hope this is the tech to deter sharks.

Thanks for the link oldfart.  Wonder if we install LED lights inside the kayak would have the similar effect.

That may work. I think you may need to attach something like these lights to the hull and find the groove that sharks move to  :smt044

This makes a lot of sense, and it seems like this would be a fairly simple addition to a kayak...

Interesting. I wonder if a light in each scupper hole would be enough.

I was just thinking the same thing.  Seems pretty easy to poke an LED on a stick into a scupper hole.  Could probably incorporate a light pole too...

I’m tempted to try this. Some advantages over a shark shield are that I could use my FF battery, it’ll run all day without beeping, and it just might disorient sea lions too. One downside I could envision is that it might also make a kayak less visible to breaching whales…

Thinking about it if imany, most, some attacks are based on mistaken ID, then yeah a lit up anything wouldn't resemble a normal prey animal. Could it be that simple?

Ocean Guardian Shark Shield went out of business and was liquidated. A scuba shop in Florida bought the intellectual rights. I checked out their website but there isn't any mention of it. Killshot Spearguns.

A study from South Africa
https://search.app/CXmo65atihwx4gtF9

Very interesting paper!

“when the researchers placed LED lights in striped patterns across the decoys, perpendicular to the direction of motion, the results show that the sharks saw the decoys but stopped attacking them. This specific design broke the decoy’s shape into smaller visual fragments, confusing the predators”
