I've never fished it but Berkley Flicker Shads have been best at Berryessa with Quickfish 2nd for kayak trolling speeds in my limited experience. Spee-D-shiners are good but it's hard work to keep a kayak at the desired speed.
Does Comanche have the hard-fighting chrome broom-tailed holdovers like Berry or are they the mutant corn-fed Frankentrout?

Typical strategy at Comanche is to cover ground with fast lures like speedy shiners, you will read it everywhere. But it's a huge lake, and the boats don't care about trolling 20 miles to find fish.  Like all planter lakes you can find out which spot they plant and fish that area first, north or south ramp. Then I like to slow troll a threaded night crawler or a grub in the areas they planted.  Then if deciding to seek out other fish I use plugs or spoons that can go fast as i'm covering ground. If i'm heading to open water I break out the dodgers/flashers to try and bring fish in from farther away.  Don't be afraid to sit there and soak garlic power bait either, it works.  They are definitely the mutant type, heavy planting of them and huge big ones will be put in soon as the temps allow them too. They fill a pond with them and it's by far more popular fishing there on the weekends.

+1 for the grubs. Sepps grubs in particular. Orange, white, and rootbeer are the best three colors, oxblood can be good too. Adding an action disc above the grub and/or a garlic power egg can be very effective.

In winter, I like the shallow bay with the houseboat moorings near the north shore ramp. Hat island and the river channel can be good but is a long paddle west. The narrows between north shore and south shore can also be great and sometimes holds crappie.

Al pretty much nailed it with his post, if the slow stuff doesn’t produce, speedy shiners can be a good option for a fast troll. Cop car, fluorescent orange, and fire tiger are good colors if the lake is stained up, chrome/blue and pure silver are good for clean water and sunny days.

Curious about a few other tactics that I haven’t tried there yet, including… trying one of those hybrid leadcore/mono setups for shallow trolling. With that setup, you can rip artic fox trolling flies, which kills at Almanor during the winter and spring. I also think rolling shad would be effective since that’s the primary baitfish in the lake and works well at other nearby valley lakes like New Melones and Don Pedro

2 or 3 in speedy shiner?
Both technically, but you will probably use the 2in the most as it will get bit more.  the 3 would be for trying for a trophy.  They troll at 3mph btw

Interesting video - gonna have to introduce small grubs into my trout arsenal.  I've seen him talk about those hooks before too, might have to find some of those.

Those slow death hooks are awesome for the slow trolling the nightcrawler too.
