I want to get the kids out to sabiki some anchovies for tray baits and boquerones.  Sounds like Santa Cruz harbor and wharf areas are pretty good bets. Does anyone know if they have been in Pacifica or the Embarcadero? Any other spots they might have been encountered near shore or a wharf/jetty?

They are in huge schools in Pacifica too, but not sure if they are near the pier. They were in the Linda Mar area a couple days ago. Tons of whales feeding when I was there, was cool to see, but I didn't want to get too close. I saw another guy on a kayak who said he caught a ton of anchovies tho.

Last weekend I went to Pacifica pier, Pier 7, Fort Mason, HMB jetty….no anchovies for shore anglers.

They are thick in Pacifica and HMB but just out of reach.  I marked a lot right off the jetty in HMB yesterday but they were avoiding my cast net.

Thanks for the intel!
Tried the marina at about 8. Lots of 2-3”ers.
Went to the wharf and had weed through plenty of French fries but managed a couple dozen proper chovies.

If they are still around later this week I'm going to try for them with a cast net.

Took the kids to the Cap Wharf. Really slow. Bait was hard to come by and just a couple of kingfish. I'm sure there was plenty out there but not off land/pier.

Just in case anybody is still in anchovy-hunting mode...

I was at the SC harbor yesterday, and the aerators were still going, but not many anchovies were visible. Still a few birds around, but nothing like last week...

Are you pondering what I’m pondering?
