A few of us have decided to to change things up and leave the kayaks at home. We are planning to hunt for Surf Perch on Sat 8/10 somewhere in the bay area. Not sure where yet. Thinking Muir, Baker, China or Gray Whale beaches. If anyone has gone lately, any pointers on what direction to go would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Kevin.

I fished Steep Ravine a couple weeks ago. One lunker of a perch, otherwise it was very slow.

Hey Kevin, wish I could join you guys!

I took the kids to Rockaway beach in Pacifica a few weeks ago, and cast a line for about an hour or so. Only caught one, right up on the beach edge of the trough, maybe 15 feet in front of me. I was using a gulp sandworm on a dropshot type rig. There were a few other guys fishing too, but they were throwing swim baits for stripers - I didn't see them catch anything.

That said, I am no perch whisperer, and I fully recognize my tactics are far from optimal, haha. Good luck, how you guys score!

Troy, unfortunately the tides are not in our favor but we're still planning on going. Bringing the poke poles and squid as a backup.

I have Muir shore fishing report but it's from about 40 years ago.🙂

Never got much from the beach but didn't have much beach experience at the time. I was able to get perch and sometimes small rockfish and greening casting from the rocks to the south.

Fished from 8:00 to 3:00. Despite the tide, we did quite well in the morning. Landed a ton of little guys about 4-5" long. Bite died at slack tide. Tried Poke poling for a bit bit but only came up with small rock crabs. Still managed to bring home 8 Barred and Silver perch up to 10". Made for a great fish taco dinner. Nice Place. Easy level walk to the beach Watched several people launch Fishing kayaks in the morning. Dont know how they did as we left before they came back in.

Sounds like a fun outing.
I’ve done well there using fresh mussel as bait.
Can be a great kayak launch spot too — I just hate navigating over those rocks to launch from the westernmost area.
