Where to catch livees? - Shoreline Park

Headed out on Sunday from Jean & John Starkweather Shoreline Park with a buddy. Any suggestion about where/how to catch a few livees over there would be welcome. Hopin’ to avoid dragging popsicles.

Also - if you’d like to join the hali hunt, we’ll disembark between 7 and 9.

I forgot if you use sabiki tip it with some shrimp or squid. Fort Baker (Moore) pier is another spot.

Really depends on which species you are looking for. I've caught smelt and sardines in open water dragging a sabiki around on the way to the halibut hunting spot. Near structure like piers or jetties is still typically most productive. I caught a ton of smelt among the old Berkeley pier during my last outing a couple weeks ago.

Near a pier you are more likely to catch various perch species - keep in mind that shiner perch are the only ones legal to keep and use as bait right now in SF Bay.

A little chum goes a long way sometimes, especially if you are the pier and trying to collect bait before getting on the kayak. Cool video, kind a jealous of that setup, haha.

I do really well with catching smelt anchovies and shiners. All you need to do is throw a ton of white bread. Make sure it soaks a bit in water so it sinks then throw a cast net. Around any of the piers or places with structure in the bay will work.

I have zero cast netting skills. Probably need to work on that. Chum - that seems clutch. Not sure how effective it’ll be in conjunction with a sabiki. Gonna find out and let y’all know.
