sometimes, in the tankwell, I put a 96oz plastic bottle or flat blue-ice slab designed for the cooler
that I filled with water and froze. This plus a burlap bag cover would probably work for almost all our conditions.

btw, solid ice lasts way longer than cubes.

In general, I often keep a few of these 96oz plastic juice bottles filled with water and
frozen in my freezer. I toss them in my cooler when I go fishing.
With 4 or 5 of these, you might not need to buy ice at all. I often don't if it's rockfish.

A cooler or fish bag seems almost a requirement for any tropical or sub tropical spot. I kayak fished
in the florida keys and if you are out there for any time, it's a nice thing to have.

I use the stringer method while floating and canvas bag them in transit to shore. Then they go on ice for the drive home.

Thanks for the idea of the burlap sack - I forgot all about that one, my Grandfather always used one, I thought it was because he could get them for free. I am gonna check in at our local coffee roaster and try to pick some up.
