I mooched 3 gulp jerkbaits and 3 hotdogs from da mooch.

launched at 10:10 a.m (yeah, friday night partying still slowing me down! I blame my wife,  )

cafecraig had the stringer of the day unless yakuzas was better as far as I knew. saw a monster
grass rockfish and nice vermillion or two out there.

me, I just got a pile of blacks, a blue (can you spot it?) and a cabezon. released a smaller cabezon and
some smaller blues/blacks and gophers.

should have used a swimbait at some point, but basically just slung a white shrimpfly and 3.5oz megabait
for a close to a season end limit.

was relaxing and fun out there today for me.

cabezon was dinner for us with all the taco and margarita fixings.  good thing tomorrow is monday so I can
get some rest!

Wow!!! I was expecting for the Bean to give up more for the close. For some reason, swimbaits don't do it for me there either. I'll stick with irons until I've lost them all. Oh well... at least it sounds like it was a nice and relaxing close for you out there. There's always south of Pigeon to hit if you haven't had your fix though.

nice stringer, I guess today was it for the rkfishing?

Met Willie, Dan and Mooch today and got some cool NCKA stickers, could not stay as long as I would have liked because my 14 year old son was having a bad day with the swells, Did manage a nice vermillion and some smaller r-fish. Nice to see a bunch of kayaks out today.

Wow!!! I was expecting for the Bean to give up more for the close. For some reason, swimbaits don't do it for me there either. I'll stick with irons until I've lost them all. Oh well... at least it sounds like it was a nice and relaxing close for you out there. There's always south of Pigeon to hit if you haven't had your fix though.

I only included the photo because of the blue in there. I quizzed my kids, and the
neighbors kids, 3 out of 4 of them got it right.

swimbaits do work for me there, but iron is easy, and I'm lazy.

That stringer is not something to be too proud of, but when you arrive after 9, you take what you
can get!

Was just about to post a long ass report, and hit wrong key!! .  To tired to recreate so short version: I did alright. 



I think CafeCraig did a similar total weight stringer with a monster cab.  Unfortunately, can hardly make it out in this pic, but that cab was HEEEUUUGGE.

First time for me at the bean, thanks to JohnK and son for letting me tag along to the fishing grounds.  I can see where a newbie could lose their bearing so easily coz the swells were big enough to hide land and constantly turning my scupper around.  I kept one eye on the kayakers ( I think there's about a dozen of us out there at one point) to make sure I wasn't drifting too  far out. CnRed a few rockfish for next year no keepers.    Started feeling seasick and I followed a guy in a SIK ( thanks for the help in landing and sorry forgot your name bro ) coming in early coz he was having similar problems...we both landed safely. Thanks Joel for the hotdogs and it was great meeting some of you guys for the first time.   

Nice blue below the cab there - good size.  For me it's that checkery look to the scales of the flank nearer the tail, but the maxillary not extending beyond a line drawn down from the eye is the true test, eh?

Sounds like a good day for the Bean crew.  I was in Palo Alto last night and was so tempted to get up early this morning to cruise over 92 and down the coast to see the NCKA brotherhood amass on el Arroyo de los Frijoles.  Wife did NOT like the idea...

So from here on rockfish is open south of pigeon pt only? Is there a map in a handy spot that shows the boundary?

From F&G website:

Northern Management Area (Oregon border south to 40°10' north latitude near Cape Mendocino in Mendocino County): CLOSED - Fishing for rockfish, cabezon, greenlings and lingcod is closed to boat-based anglers beginning Oct. 1, 2007.

North-Central Management Area (40°10’ north latitude near Cape Mendocino in Mendocino County to 37°11’ north latitude near Pigeon Pt. in San Mateo County): CLOSED - Fishing for rockfish, cabezon, greenlings and lingcod is closed to boat-based anglers beginning Oct. 1, 2007.

Regulations for all Management Areas south of 37 degrees 11’ north latitude: Seasons remain as noted in the 2007 California Ocean Sport Fishing regulations booklet.

The map of the areas is on p. 5 of the reg booklet. 
Since the boundaries are latitudes, if you wanted to creep up to the line from the south (but where would you launch?) make sure you set your GPS or compass for TRUE north.

I arrived late - 7:45AM.....there was a truck load full of puppies that turned over at HWY92 and I had to rescue every one of 'em. Good news is that all of them survived and were unharmed

Anyway, I had consistent action of smaller RF here and there...most of which were Chinas, Black and yellows and gophers = all released. I was looking for a Monster Ling or even a Halibut but got no love Still, it was nice to be out there.

Got to meet more NCKA'ers and had fun talking story after all the fishing and catching.

Cafe Craig and Martin / Yakuza had some nice stringers. And Steve (da reefer   ) caught a LARGE Grass RF  (biggest one I've seen). Dan Man, on his first trip to the Hollow, was rewarded with a nice Ling 

Anyone who thinks a limit of blacks/blues with a cab thrown in the mix is a bad day of fishing is flat out nuts, imo.    And Blues and blacks taste just as good as any other rockfish, imo.  I'll bet you had a blast catching those, John.  

I had my worst day yet, only kept one cab about that size, and one largish grass rock cod, (not nearly as large as bajareefer's FATTY).  And I released five or six smaller fish, including an underling and cab and gophers, etc, most of which puked and/or crapped on me prior to release.  At least none of em poked me!

I seemed to have the best luck on the torpedo sinker ghetto irons tipped with Gulp squid swimbaits, but the cab took an unadorned 2oz bucktail.

It was good to meet all the new guys...new to me anyhow.
 Most of us didn't do so great this time , [ self included ] but theres always a few guys who do well and subvert our excuses.   I caught a grouper....I mean a grass rock that looked like one.
He was 20 inches and about 5-6 lbs.
I also caught 4 of Mooches spicy hotdogs and arrived home not hungry...a first.
