when do the mackerel stop biting in santa cruz?

curious about that one. I saw NW swells, but figured it would be calm there. would like to try
putting a few mackerel in the smoker just to see how it comes out.

When do they leave for the winter typically?

Allen's Sentinel article this week quoted the Capitola folks as saying the macs weren't as plentiful now.

yeah, they are typically a summertime phenom.. Probably will disappear once we have a good storm or swell, or as the water cools.

Just took a stroll on Pl Pt: saw a lot of birds working bait at Sharks, and another flock at first Peak. Flat calm out there this morning.

BTW, Macs make the bombass crawdad bait. 

went to my aunt's house on the sacto river.  she had previously baited with chicken parts.  I tossed some mac carcasses in there and BAM!!! totally outproduced.

Good for nighttime cats too.

We should go out and load up on a mac attack if they're still around.

J, another option is ranch 99 or other asian super markets. i saw some huge ones for cheap.
