Hey all, thought I would ask here.  Am considering an annual pass for either EBRPD or EBMUD.  Can't do both, looking for folks who've had either of these in the past for insights.  Going to up my freshwater game this year!

Thanks!

I don't think you can fish (or touch the water) in the East Bay MUD land (legally) so the EBRPD sounds like the way to go for fishing. The EBMUD land is awesome hiking and access to areas that were closed off to most of us to create watershed for drinking water.

In the past I may or may not have swam in some EBMUD water.

EBMUD includes San Pablo and Lafayette, which is why I was considering that option. I think I'm gonna go with EBRPD tho because it has Chabot, Contra Loma, and a bunch of others.

Aha makes sense, when I hiked around Lafayette reservoir I read that they actually have sturgeon in there, so strange in such a small resorvour. And San Pablo Dam is a big deal for trout.....

Yep, San Pablo is the draw with that option. Really want to pick up my freshwater game this year, figure membership is probably a good first step.

I have the EBRPD annual fishing pass. I use it regularly at Chabot, Quarry Lakes and Shadow Cliffs because they are close to my house. I am definitely getting my money's worth.

I signed up a couple days ago - looking forward to getting on the water soon. I am in Concord, so nearly all of the EBRPD are within about 30-45 minutes for me. Contra Loma is closest, but Chabot, and all the Pleasanton/Dublin lakes are also not too far. Saw your post - hoping to get into some trout myself!

I assume with the pass, you still have to pay for inspection. Just curious as to the cost of the pass, how much per-trip without the pass, and how much for the inspection? Or, just cut to the chase: How many trips do you need to make for the pass to pay off?
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

Standard rate for the angler pass is $300/year.  Daily rate is about $20 before inspection - some locations are a couple bucks more or less.  Inspection is $4, every trip, regardless.  So. if I take the kayak to one of the parks once a month, it's paid for.

I think having the pass will encourage me to get out more, and one of my goals for 2024 is to improve my freshwater game.  Almost all of them are within a 45 min drive, and some are reverse commute too - which is definitely a factor for me.

So, looking forward to getting better with trout, crappie, and bass.  Hoping to land a better spot on the AOTY board this year - I only submitted 3 fish in 2023, but only had 2 saltwater fishing trips.

I have the 2023 Senior Angler pass, paid $150. I've been fishing once and sometimes twice a week. I experienced around 20 trout limits at Chabot last year. I am at Quarry lakes now, no bites yet.

I bought a senior pass last year, and for this year too. Need to go about 10 times to break even. Paid for itself last year. Fished Chabot, Contra Loma, and Shadow Cliffs.

Went to Del Valle the last time out and waited at the inspection station for 20 minutes. Two workers saw me waiting but never came over and said anything to me. Got frustrated, and went to Shadow Cliffs instead.

That's frustrating.  Seems like the inspection at Del Valle is more of a pain than at the others.

I've only launched at Contra Loma in the EBRPD system, and it is pretty easy there.  The folks there are pretty friendly and helpful, and I don't often see too many other boats/kayaks there.
