This sounds fun!  I've been considering getting a handline reel for sabiki work anyway - always looking for a better solution for catching live bait.  Seems like this would really well for that. 

Do you use a round spool type or the longer, stick type?  Hopefully that description makes sense, haha.

Whats the %of people who catch halibut/striper sometimes I struggle with a $400 reel/rod combo and live bait/sex herring troll

Handlining any species is a blast!! and yes, we've caught strippers and butts in the bay with them too... Handlining for Lings is f'ng wild; which we used to due the day before Albion Tournys...

Probably quite a rush, fishing one of those deep for something big and toothy like a ling!

Yup! Ask Yakhopper; he heard me scream'n and laughing, and we were on opposite side of the Albion cove!

And yes, loss ratio is a lot high on larger species...

   Wahoo !     Shit,, I didn't fish once all last year.     Time to start unpacking my gear...  See y'all there.
