Hello all,

I recently changed my ride which has a different rail system so these towers became extras.

They are in good working order and come with locks and keys.  You will need to get the landing pads for sure.  Optionally, you may want to get the Yakima master key so that you can switch out the locks if you so choose.

Pick up in Benicia during workday lunch hours or Walnut Creek/Concord/PH area in the evenings or weekends.

Why did I read this if I don't need any rack parts?  Because by browsing, I learned there is a generic key. That should help since I have at least 3 attachments each with its own key and I always choose the wrong one.

On second thought, does a master key make it easier for thieves?  What am I missing here?

The key locks are really a safeguard against someone just pushing the unlock button.  They are all easily circumvented, have done so many times on my own or friends locks.  A screwdriver shoved in there and turned will probably work for a theif easily.  And yes, the keys are fairly generic, about as safe as a file cabinet key.

Coming from a background in mountain biking, can confirm that the locks on both Thule and Yakima are pretty simple. More of a deterrent from "opportunity thieves" than a long term strategy. All kinds of ways to defeat them, - screwdriver as mentioned above, bolt cutters from some types, a BFH, or a variety of cordless power tools available now. But, better than no lock I guess.

Personally, I've never had a bike or kayak stolen when locked up on my car, but I am also pretty careful about when/where/how long I park like that.
