December 14 FGC Meeting Agenda: https://nrm.dfg.ca.gov/FileHandler.ashx?DocumentID=216647&inline

Our agenda item will be discussed after lunch, around  12:45 or 1:00 PM.  (We have requested a pre-arranged time for our agenda item for your convenience) : 20.(B).III Petition 2023-11: Authorize recreational take of groundfish inside 50 fathoms using non-motorized vessels or watercraft (less than or equal to 19 feet) with mandatory descending devices.

CDFW staff informed me last week that CDFW is currently working on multiple strategies for developing the 2024 season. To allow for fishing activity in nearshore waters for some portion of the year, CDFW is trying to develop waypoints to establish a 20 fm RCA line, which could be used for 2024 and beyond rockfish seasons once established.   We might get an opportunity to comment on their 20 fm RCA line soon.

Everyone did great. I thought Fernando made a really good case. It took me awhile to realize that I wasn’t actually logged in, but was finally able to make my statement. Thanks Paul for leading on this. The more I hear our arguments, the more I believe in our position. So hopefully they will feel the same.

The next battles will be MPA expansion.
