Sorry to hear that. Next time you will be rewarded with limit.
Do you rent a condo?

Whenever I go down, I stay in a hotel and afraid of someone stealing kayak and gears.

Curious as well as I'm hoping to join sometime.  But I think I might take a drive down to SD soon anyway just to check it out and maybe visit Catalina.

I was searching high and low for campground. Nowhere to be found down there. It would be epic to stay at a campsite. Well there is at Catalina.

Hi Chet

It is an unusual arrangement.  I work in the Sacramento area, and my wife works in the LA area.  We own condos at each location and get together during the weekends.  We typically take turns traveling and frequent S/W airlines.  Since I only have a short time left until retirement, we decided to do it this way.

I have Hobie Oasis at both locations and Hobie Outback at Sacramento.  Currently searching for a retirement location around 30 minutes from a kayak fishing spot from the Sonoma coast to the Southern Oregon coast.

Hi Bob

We should search together.  My search included Brookings too.
Consider making a road trip to check out Brookings, Crescent City, Eureka, and Fortuna over the Veteran's Day weekend.

Take a look at Coos Bay. My wife grew up there and we bought a house there a couple of years ago. The bay has tons of crabs and clams and there is a great ocean launch at Sunset Bay state park. There are also salmon that come into some of the little lakes in the area, but I haven't learned that fishery yet. Plus, since 101 comes away from the coast there are some spectacular beaches and cliffs off the beaten path. If you haven't already, join and explore NWKA to learn more about Oregon kayak fishing.

There are some reasonably priced lots on the hill above Timber Cove, but I'm not sure how the permit process would go.

I want to be close to CA as much as possible since all my family members still live in Southern California.  However, I will check out Coos Bay.

I would love to have a house near Timber Cove, but I don't want to go through the permitting process.  I want to able to move in a reasonable time.

Thank you for the information.  I purchased my lost hoops from Charkbait.  They give great service and offer discounts to military members.
I found 3 used ones from Craigslist for $90 and ordered the remaining two from Bass Pro Shop with a military discount for less than $60 each plus tax.
Ordered five Promar AC-300SP Seal Proof Bait Cages from Amazon for $19 each.  Hope I will get back to lobster hooping soon.
They will be expansive lobsters.

My memory was he was diving around Catalina but memory banks aren’t so good these days

Primary distribution range of the California Spiny Lobster extending from Monterey, California in the north to Magdalena Bay, Baja California with a small population occurring in the northwest portion of the Sea of Cortez.
